Hello everyone. Welcome to Friday's Fave Five. We are pausing in the everyday to notice and be thankful for blessings that God has granted during the last week. My list this week will have to quick. My step mom passed away this week so time on the computer is scarce. If I didn't make it to your posts from last week or this week to read and comment please forgive. I hope to be back commenting next week.
~ Sunday road trip ~ Sunday we took a little road trip to the mountains for Hubby's work. It was a gorgeous day out and we had a fun drive about 90 minutes one way. We had a nice little lunch and then made a stop at a beautiful waterfall on the way home. Not a bad way to start my week off work. I'm thankful we had this day.
~ meals out ~ in spite of the harder week, hubby has made sure that we had some meals out together in spite of not being able to be away. He's been so thoughtful in wanting me to have a break from cooking on my week off. We tried a new restaurant we've never been to before and had an excellent meal and also had takeout from a favorite chinese food place.
~ walks ~ in spite of what was happening this week, I have been trying to make sure we got out to get some fresh air and exercise. We took the bikes out for our first ride this year and we've gone on several walks. Being out and moving our bodies helps to clear our minds and hearts from the heaviness of loss.
~ my gorgeous clematis ~ this week the clematis bloomed out in all it's glory. We put a trellis behind it this year instead of it going up the side of the house. I like how full it looks this way. This clematis was here when we moved in 32 years ago so it's an oldie and it's still going strong. I added a pink one next to it a couple years back and it's still getting established so only shows a few blooms and they got swallowed up by the purple. Next year I'll know to guide it to the outside.
~ new towels ~ nothing like a fresh set of fluffy, soft towels. I have tried everything to get my towels back to some semblance of softness like they were originally but I finally waved the flag of defeat and went and bought some new ones. Such a difference. If you got any ideas on keeping towels somewhat soft and fluffy please let me in on all our secrets.
Thanks for joining in. Happy 4th of July to all my American friends. Enjoy your celebrations and stay safe.

I'm sorry to hear about your step-mother. You certainly have had a rough year for losses. Oh my goodness your Clemantis looks so pretty.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your step-mom.
Your road trip sounds fun. I used to lament that I was the only one without days off, because I still had to cook and do all the regular things. In the last several years we've had more take-out or easy meals on vacation days or days off.
That clematis is gorgeous.
I'm with you on wanting to know how to make towels fluffy again. I read that soaking them in the washer for hours with a vinegar and water solution helps, but it only did so marginally. Then with a couple more washings, they were back to stiff and scratchy.
Susanne: I'm so sorry for the loss of your step mom. Yes being out in nature and all that God created is very soothing no matter what we're going through. And although your husband had to work on a Sunday, at least your destination/road trip resulted in that gorgeous waterfalls!!
Meals out or ordered in are always a blessing to me...glad you had that happen!
I finally learned the secret to soft towels!! ( at least it works for me). First of all, I no longer buy the cheapest brand from Target or JCPenney (the only two places I buy towels now that Bed Bath and Beyond is extinct!). I buy the ones that are from India...can't remember the name brand but they're not much more and they are always on sale or if you have a Target circle app/card, you get 5% off anyways! Then I wash them (yes even the colored ones) in HOT water with a cold water rinse and I use Downy April Fresh Fabric softener. Only one i use. Then I put them in the dryer on "heavy" and a high heat setting with TWO Downy April Fresh fabric softener dryer sheets. (save the sheets to tuck into shorts pockets when hiking or as kindling for a bonfire). this method WORKS!!!
the two brands from target i like are Super plush high performance by Threshold, and the Moda brand.
What a beautiful road trip! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
A beautiful place to watch the waterfall ! In summer when we were only the two of us, we often ordered supper and were both too lazy to cook. Rick loved to cook and was a good cook until his Parkinson started and everything stopped. Now I am fed 3 x per day by an Italian cook ! He was very good, now he is in love and sometimes the food is a bit to salty. I hope the love will decrease and the salt too !
Sorry to read about the death of your stepmom. May God comfort you. That waterfall is so beautiful. I'm glad you can have some carefree time mixed in with your sorrow.
So sorry to hear about your Step-Mom. Glad you were off this week and not having to worry about working. Some lovely things on your list. I always tumble dry my towels and they seem to keep soft. I hope you can relax over the weekend.
I am sorry about your step mom's passing. This has been a hard year for you. Meals and walks are a good way to focus and be calm. LOVE that waterfall!
Your clematis is beautiful. (I finally planted mine; it's not acting happy)
Have a good week!
I'm so sorry to hear about your step-mom -- can certainly see how your time will be spent with family.
Your little road trip sounds sublime. Beautiful day to drive with your beloved to lunch and then a stunning waterfall. That is luxury indeed.
And that beloved is so thoughtful to ease the stress with meals. Bonus for the new terrific restaurant!
Wow, that is a wonderful pair of clems. Of course, you've added to them some sweet annuals, too.
