Welcome to Friday's Fave Five. A short work week for us here in Canada but no less blessings to look for and be grateful and thankful for. Please join as we pause our busy lives to look back over the week and take note of the blessings God has sent our way.
~ long weekend trip ~ it was a long weekend here in Canada and we took the opportunity to take a road trip and visit our daughter and son-in-law. They live in another province and it's about a 7 hour road trip barring nothing slowing traffic. It's long and not the most exciting of drives but the chance to see our family is a true blessing. We took it easy over the weekend with walks along a new to us area and around their neighborhood to several Little Free Libraries, good food, a little shopping, a movie night and just enjoying each other's company. I'm thankful we had the opportunity and that the trip was safe there and back.
~ unexpected day off ~ Thursday saw me with no kids coming to dayhome so I ended up with an unexpected blessing of a day off. It was nice to start slow with coffee and a book, get the grocery shopping done, do some organizing, visit my mom, all at a relaxed pace.
~ good reads ~ I love when I come across a book that I have never heard talked about anywhere and yet it was a great read for me. It was in my piles of books and I'm not even sure where I picked it up. But it turned out to be a wonderful summer read for me. Love when that happens. Especially after a couple of disappointing DNF's (did not finish). Reading and having such an unlimited access to books such as we have in this country is a real blessing.
~ rain and cool down ~ the start of September has seen some really hot days, warmer than the norm for us. It was really nice to wake up to a cloudy, cooler morning yesterday that saw a bit of much needed rain. It's also nicer with Fall on it's way to have the nights cool down.
~ coffee with friends ~ a dear friend who had moved a province away was in town for a few days and we set up a coffee date with another friend joining us. It was so nice to visit with the both of them again and get caught up with each other, rejoicing over happy things, crying with each other over the sad and encouraging one another. Good friends are a gift!
What were your five favorite blessings from the week?
We've been having cooler temps down here as well. It's so refreshing after the beastly summer heat. How nice to have a surprise day off! Wonderful to get together with old friends. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeletegood friends indeed are a blessing! (it's funny you mentioned it because last night i had a phone call with my spiritual mentor/older girlfriend and WOWZA...did I need her intercessory prayer. I thank God for true friends).
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you got to your daughter's safely and back. I was thinking of you all when our news said there was a horrible stabbing/murders in your province!! I told Dave "alberta is where Susanne lives!!" I did stop to pray for you all.
YAY for a day off to relax, read, visit your mom. I Despise doing al my chores on the weekends so I try to do grocery shopping after work but it's SO MUCH EASIER to do it in the morning on a non work day isn't it??! a true blessing. I kind of miss being a stay at home.
I also am thankful for good books like you.
HAPPY WEEKEND! hope it's a restful one for you
Hi Susanne. I am so glad you had a some this week to get away and visit family and spend some time doing what you want to do. That is a true blessing. Amen for good books. I will look forward to your review on the one you so enjoyed. Have a good weekend. See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteThis past weekend was a great time for short trips! I'm glad you were able to visit your family. Hopefully temps will continue to come down here in Tennessee as well as Canada. It was very hot in Florida last weekend. I've run into several books lately that I've put aside. The week of 9/18 is "Read Banned Books" week in the U.S. I'm always amazed at what is on that list! Makes me want to read one just to be a rebel! Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat's so great that you got to visit with your daughter and son-in-law. And yay for unexpected days off. I felt the very first cool evening last night as we went outside to see our kids off. Felt so good! The coffee date with friends is such a blessing. I know what you mean about good books that hit the spot.
ReplyDeleteFaith: The murders happened in Saskatchewan with the emergency alerts being extended into Alberta and Manitoba. So not our province but we were in Saskatchewan when they were happening and the guy was spotted in the city we were in! Scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteYour week sounds like a week I would cherish, not that my week was not wonderful, but so many lovely surprises that would suit me to a tee, All except the horrid thought that it seems many if us have in the back of minds. Can I drive out anywhere and come home safely! That should be the prayer of everyone in there difficult days!
ReplyDeleteWonderful that you were able to have a good weekend visit with your daughter and son-in-law. Long walks and driving safety, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for cooler weather! Our temps have moderated a bit and I am definitely thankful for that, also.
I hope you have a peaceful, exercise full, low key weekend!
Your visit with daughter and SIL sounds lovely. We're planning on a long weekend in October with our Wisconsin 'kids'. It's a bit further drive, but sometimes just spending a few days is just right.
ReplyDeleteSounds like our weather patterns are similar. Yay for cool days! And a bit of rain.
I'm glad for you that you had a day off. An unexpected surprise:)
Hear hear for those cooler days! It's still warm here, but we were hitting 80F by 7:30am last week.
ReplyDeleteYou've had some lovely visiting with your kids and friends. And a surprise day off -- absolutely a fave :-)
What a bonus to enjoy a book that wasn't really on anyone's radar.
