Friday's Fave Five #697

Happy September and welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  Hard to believe it's September as we are in yet another heat wave in my area.  Technically it really is still summer for 3 more weeks, so I shouldn't be too surprised, but in my mind fall officially starts September 1st.  But at any rate, no matter the weather, we are here to intentionally look for and share some blessings God has brought into our everyday lives.  So please join in with us in being grateful and giving thanks.

~ a perfect Sunday ~  last Sunday was a perfect day in my books!  A relaxed start to the morning sipping coffee and reading my book.  Then church where a very timely and encouraging message was delivered.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous, warm without being overly hot so right after church we decided to delay lunch and instead go to the river bottom for a walk before it got too hot.  There was no wind and the river actually looked like glass reflecting the trees on the other side.  Haven't seen that too often.  Then we came home and had a lovely late lunch of bbq chicken and gnocchi with pesto and relaxed the rest of the day.

~ book declutter ~  I had 20 minutes of time where I wanted to go through something, anything in the house, and do a little declutter so I chose to go through my books I haven't read yet.  I set a timer so I wouldn't dawdle and tackled the boxes and piles.  I just asked myself with each book "In all seriousness, am I ever going to really pick this up and read it".  If I couldn't decide I read a page or two to see if I like the writing style and decided from there.  In all, I decluttered about a dozen books.  Pretty proud of myself.  There were some surprises in the pile but I have no regrets and haven't had the urge to bring them back out of the donate box in the car.  Some little libraries are going to get some good books!

~ workday sleep in ~ yesterday no kids were arriving until 10:30 so in a super rare occurence I got to sleep in on a workday and ease into my morning rather than waking to a buzzing alarm and hitting the floor running.  I wish every workday started at this time.  I'm so not a morning person.  Thankful I had this day.

~ healthy snacking ~ a new favorite snack.  A healthy trail mix that actually tastes really good.

~ dinner success ~ my neighbor gifted me a large zucchini and I knew right away I wanted to make zucchini boats for dinner out of it.  I'm not really a baker, my hubby doesn't eat sweets, but I do love zucchini incorporated into dinner somehow.  I had some left over caesar salad dressing from a salad we had for takeout earlier in the week so I thought maybe a chicken caesar zucchini boat.  But I couldn't find a recipe.  So I made one up.  And it turned out to be a big success.  It was so good.  We dug into it before I even thought to take a picture.  I'll share the recipe next week.

What were your favorite blessings from last week?

  1. Hi Susanne. I love your peaceful and relaxing Sunday. A Sunday like that sets a good tone for the entire rest of the week! Great pictures of your river bottom walk. You inspire me with your decluttering. I need to do some more of that! I am now wondering if we have that snack mix around here. I will have to look for it. I will look forward to that chicken caesar zucchini boat. It sounds really good. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

  2. oh my yes please do share your zucchini recipe. we are into grilled zucchini and carrots with onions this summer and guess what?? I found out what my allergies are!! I'm going to email you at some point this weekend. It has to do with all the zucchini i've been eating. hahahha.....(but i don't have a zucchini allergy).

LOVE that you and hubby got to have Sunday together for that river walk. The photos are lovely. looks so peaceful there.

YAY for sleeping in. Stupid me signed up for a BIG hike in the high peaks region for tomorrow which means getting up at 5 am. BUT...i can sleep in on Sunday and monday i think. last 2 days for that.

LOVE a healthy and tasty trail mix. I know Target sells some but not all of them are super healthy. i usually just eat it on a hike.

YAY for decluttering. I did hte same thing yesterday with clothes and shoes. I brought over a HUGE bag of out of style clothes and shoes that were just taking up space. I don't buy books unless it's a small group study book so i don't have to go through them. I only take from library now. mainly due to space. although we have bought the classics over the years of course.

    HAPPY WEEKEND!!

  3. Your Sunday does sound nice! I have some things set aside to give away but need to go through some others--I hope to do that this weekend. How nice to sleep in on a work day! Yay for healthy snacks. I'm glad the new recipe turned out so well.

  4. When we moved we gave all our books away and kept only maybe 10 out of 100 at least. Now I have my Kindle if I want to read a book, in that takes no space.
I anyway am not a bookworm anymore, but I was it for nearly whole my life !

  6. Looking forward to your recipe for zucchini boats. We love Caesar salad and I still have lots of zucchini coming in.

Your day on Sunday sounds just lovely. Our mornings are getting a bit cooler, but we, too, still have hot days. I find myself trying to get everything outdoors done early, then stay inside.

Good organizing on the books! I should give that a go.

  7. Your Sunday walk/hike looks perfect, just like the perfect weather.
And a lazy weekday morning sounds wonderful.
I am not sure I could give away 12 books in such a short time--I'd probably end up sitting down and reading them all.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  8. Your Sunday definitely sounded perfect. Well done on the decluttering of the books, I really need to do that but guess what? I brought 6 books home from our family reunion! Yay for the lie in on a work day. I'm not a morning person either. Not a big fan of zucchini at least I don't think so - courgettes? Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  9. I love the idea that you set a timer for the book decluttering! And 12 books in the 20 minutes is totally worth it.

Your Sunday rest sounds absolutely perfect. Warm weather, beautiful views, fantastic companions. And a relaxing lunch afterwards. Beautiful.
