I saw a shrub like this when hiking last weekend and told it was a smoke tree? smoke shrub? It's non-native to the US. I think it's European or Asian. Looked very similar to your photos.
My Picture This app says it's Old Man's Beard, a species of Clematis also known as Goat's beard and Drummond's clematis. Botanical name: Clematis drummondil. It also says it's mildly poisonous to humans and animals.

ReplyDeletePossibly Chinese clematis (a noxious weed in Colorado) and mildly poisonous. These look like their seedheads.
