Hostas: Made in the Shade!

I'm getting the spring itch.  Even though we had a crazy wind and dust storm on Saturday.   Even though it just finished hailing, thundering and lightning.  Even though it is snowing right now.    The weather is changing; moaning and groaning it's way into spring.

Some of my perennials are starting to peek through.  And as usual, I'm flustered with what to do with my flowerbeds.  But this year, I think I've made a decision.  After years of spending way too much money, both  on perennials and on annuals, I'm going to go for a lush mulit type hosta bed out front where it's mostly shady.  And I'm gonna quit digging them up each year and moving them around and give them a good chance to grow.  I might stick in an annual here and there for a splash of color, but mostly thick and lush hostas is what I'm going for.  Something like this:

Sigh.  That just makes me smile!  I even want to put a curve into my beds like that.  They are just so squared off and old-fashioned out front.  Curves is where it's at!  I just love hostas!  So many types of leaves, so many variations of color, so tropical looking!  Just clicking through this site of literally hundreds of varieties makes my heart flutter!   I may even look for one like this:

Holy Hosta, Batman!  Is that not wonderful?  I'd be the talk of the neighborhood!  Where do I get me one of those?

My mind's made up!  Hostas it is!

  1. So funny! I wish we lived closer. I dislike our hostas in part because they're huge! :)

Hope you find some you enjoy.

  3. We have some hostas we inherited when we purchased this house some 13 years ago. You cannot kill them! Not that we've tried directly but perhaps indirectly with neglect and such. They are super hardy!
