Sitting here on a Thursday evening, sifting through the jumble in my mind for the blessings that God touched me with this week. Some weeks are like that. Life happens and my mind gets over filled and over worked so it takes a moment to settle and remember the good things. I filled out an application for a Connect Leader position with Operation Christmas Child, a year round volunteer position, and one of the questions was "name three weaknesses". It occurred to me after I handed in the application that really I should have put "overthinking" right at the very top. How did I not think to put that? My mind gets going rehashing every possible scenario it can think of. Frankly, it's exhausting at times. How good is it that I have this space that reminds me to pause? Pause my running around, pause my mind, pause the constant pull of false urgency. A space to remember with gratefulness the blessings that have come into my life, gifted from God, for me to enjoy. And just sit and savor them as gifts from a loving God. Please join in as we share five of our blessings from the week.
~ Operation Christmas Child dessert event ~ On Saturday the regional director came from Calgary and gave a wonderful presentation on all things OCC. It was a fun time of learning the wonderful things happening with shoebox gifts around the world, yummy desserts and meeting other people in the area with the same heart and love for this ministry.
~ Sunday lunch ~ Sunday I went for lunch with the regional director and a couple of other local leaders. It was a wonderful time getting to know them on a more personal level as we will be working as a team. The lunch was delicious and the fellowship fun. Can't wait to see what God will do with the team.
~ quick visits ~ on the weekend both kids from the big city popped in. We got to see our youngest for a brief few minutes while she got dressed for a wedding she was attending. And my son stayed overnight and left the next afternoon. I enjoy every moment my children can manage to get home, no matter how brief. And tonight I received a txt from my youngest saying she wished she could have visited with us more. I'm so very thankful they still have a heart for home.
~ Lion King the Musical tickets purchased ~ when Son was here we purchased our tickets for Lion King the Musical. One of the performance weeks happens to fall on our holidays and I am beyond excited. We missed the boat on lower level seats, they sold FAST, and now the ones they have left are reselling for expensive prices. But we got a steal of a deal on seats in the first balcony. Less expensive even the 2nd level balcony back rows! Someone was reselling and had to get rid of them and God blessed me with seeing that availability. We nabbed them right away as we realized what a deal they were. And really most of the seats are great at this theatre. I cannot wait. I've been dreaming of seeing this for years.
~ flowers ~ I'll probably post a flower pic weekly because I really consider them a blessing from God. They bring me joy and tell me of what an artist and creator He is. These are my two bigger flower pots on the front step and on the deck. They're taking off nicely. I love being creative each year with them. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But no matter, I love to watch them grow.
What have your blessings been this week? What are you thankful for in your life?
I know what you mean in your first paragraph. My mind does that, too--thinking through the ups and downs of all the scenarios. It is exhausting! Have you ever read Don’t Overthink It: Make Easier Decisions, Stop Second-Guessing, and Bring More Joy to Your Life by Anne Bogel? It was very good. In fact, I think I may reread it sometime, or at least scan through it.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to be involved in OCC "behind the scenes" and get to know your team! I'm blessed, too, that my kids like to come home when they get a chance. It's always good to see our kids, even briefly.
Oh wow, the musical sounds like such fun, and how great to get a good price on tickets.
Your planters look so nice!
I absolutely LOVE the flowers on the deck!! simply gorgeous. the ones on front are nice too. But I just LOVE those deck ones. But i think it's because they remind me of my youngest daughter's childhood bedroom which tended to be purple with yellow touches.
ReplyDeleteYAY for scoring good musical theater tickets! I would LOVE to see the Lion King musical. Dave not so much. ENJOY the performance
I think it's awesome you're going to be a leader on the OCC team!!! that is so cool. A ministry we still support and have been for almost 35 years now!
I love it when my kids pop over. Even like yesterday when claire popped in for just 20 minutes. I always love the hugs.....glad you got to have two of your three pop in this week.
ENJOY the weekend and stay cool!
Love those visits from our kids. So nice that they are comfortable to drop in! Flowers are a sweet enjoyment from our God, the creator.
ReplyDeleteHi Susanne. I love your beautiful flowers! So glad you got to see your children this week. Sounds like God is continuing to do great things through Samaritan's Purse and the OCC ministry. Have a good weekend! See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteHi Susanne, your flowers are so pretty! I like to help out with Operation Christmas child each year. Nice that you can see the Lion King musical. Nice that you got to see your kids too! Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have that over thinking brain, too.
ReplyDeleteI love all the flowers, too. (I write this as I am staring out the back window at bright red petunias.)
Seeing your kids is the best! Happy week ahead to you.
I seem to go in phases with the overthinking. It’s exhausting, you’re right! It sounds like such a good fit for you to be more involved with OCC again. They are so lucky to have you! Your flowers are just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! This is such a wonderful place to drop anchor and recall those blessings before the jumble of the next week.
ReplyDeleteThat's terrific how you are able to be involved with OCC on several levels. Such a fruitful ministry.
Lovely to have visits from your kids and that they are intentional about staying in touch. That's a blessing indeed.
Congrats on nabbing those tickets! I'm sure you'll have a blast.
Oh, yes, keep posting those gorgeous planters. I love your compositions.
