Happy Friday, everyone! So glad to take this pause in the way too busy week so that I can notice some of the blessings that God brought my way. Busyness sure tries to distract me and cares of this world really try to blind me to the everyday goodness that God tries to bless me with. Having an "appointment" each week to take pause and think and take note really helps with resetting my perspective. Please join in with us as we develop eyes that see the blessing and hearts that are grateful to God.
As usual there is never any particular order to mine. It's just how they are brought to my remembrance.
~ fundraising afternoon tea ~ my friend treated me to a fundraising afternoon tea event that supports a local women's ministry who houses and runs programs for women recovering from addiction. It was a lovely afternoon getting to talk to people I haven't seen in years and having yummy sandwiches and desserts and of course tea (or coffee for us die hards). There was a silent auction, and lots of lovely planters filled with flowers the women had planted to purchase and varies other items you could buy with all proceeds going to the charity. Our Member of Parliment made a short speech and three of the women who currently live in the home shared their stories of how God moved in their lives. It was very touching.
~visit from youngest~ Our youngest popped down for an overnight visit. She was taking her cousin out for her birthday but there was time for us to have a visit and dinner with her also. It's always a blessing when the kids come home even for a short while.
~ shaved ice truck ~ well once again the shaved ice truck was hired by the school across the street and parked right in front of the house. And as soon as the kids laid eyes on it, excitement vibrated right through them. One of them came running up to me to say "The ice cream truck came back just for us!" Well how could I disappoint that hope. So we quickly donned our shoes and coats before the school kids came out and crossed the street to get a shaved ice. I wish I could show a picture of their happy faces enjoying the treat.
~ spontaneous "picnic" and walk ~ Sunday was such a gorgeous day that after church, which took longer because of the Annual General Meeting, we went home, changed, grabbed the dog, picked up burgers and went to our favorite place in the River Bottom for an impromptu picnic and walk. What a lovely break that was enjoying the outdoors.
~ strawberry tomatoes ~ Hubby brought them home from C*stco last week. I'd never heard of a strawberry tomato and I think they are the best one bite tomatoes I've ever had. They were so juicy and sweet and very flavorful. Like home grown. It's not often a store bought tomato tastes that good.
What were your favorite blessings from the week.
All your faves made me smile. The visit from your girl, the tea party, the picnic and walk in your favorite place, and especially the excitement of the day care kids when the ice cream truck showed up.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful list of fave blessings for you!
ReplyDeletehere's what made me chuckle and spit out coffee: strawberry tomatoes. Dave, Claire, and I all text each other the results of playing Strands each day via our iphones. this past week one of the Spans was Tomatoes. one of the words was Strawberries. Afterwards, i said to dave what the heck is a strawberry tomato? we had to google it and now you're listing it as a fave! they look similar to the Cherry tomatoes I grew a few years ago. And yes, it is RARE to get good tasting tomatoes from a big box store like Costco! I usually have to get mine at Whole Foods or the farmers market.
LOVE that you and hubby had a spontaneous picnic and walking date.
How fun to see your youngest. Even though ours lives only 25 min south of us, I rarely see her. We talk alot on the phone though.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend
The fundraising tea sounds fun in itself, plus the ministry sounds like a wonderful and very needed one. I'm glad your daughter could pop in for a visit. Our former church had a man who ran his own shaved ice business, so he had his truck at any school function and many church ones. Good stuff. I can imagine the children's excitement when one was parked right in front of the house! Your picnic and walk sound lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely and fun things to be thankful for. Time with adult kids is a special treat. Hope you have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh I can just imagine the excitement of the children over the ice truck being so close Always good to catch up with family even if only briefly and your outings (tea party and picnic) definitely sound like blessings in your week. Have a good weekend Susanne.
ReplyDeleteHi Susanne, I enjoyed reading your post. The shaved ice truck sounds like so much fun! I love those small, sweet tomatoes. I have one plant growing but it doesn't look so good. I am reading the Conclave and I did see the movie in the evening. Have a nice week!
ReplyDeleteYes, it IS like a weekly appointment -- and such a good one to keep.
ReplyDeleteThe fundraising tea sounds like such a creative way to spur generosity.
How nice that the shaved ice truck parks right across the street from you and your little ones!
Glad you could be out in that beautiful day with your picnic.
Aw, that’s so lovely! 💛 It’s always extra special when the youngest one comes home—even for a quick visit. It sounds like you all had a really sweet time together. Those short but meaningful visits are such a gift!
ReplyDeleteI am late, but I created a new blog and as everything has changed, I hope it works ! For the moment I would love to have some icecream, we have such unusual hot weather 33° and more without sunshine, that's not very healthy !
