Skies like this may be foriegn to most of you but to us it is quite familiar. It is a chinook arch and it brings with the very warm, and very blustery warm winds coming off the mountains. In the winter it can warm the temperature by up to 20 degrees within a couple of hours when it is blowing at it's finest. It can be extremely windy for days. And I mean extremely. But it helps us get through the cold winters by giving us some breaks in the frigid cold and snow. The arch is always to the west and the clouds always stretch over top of the city and spread way to the east. (Sorry it's a bit blurry, I took it while driving down a very busy main road with my cell phone).

That is very cool photo. I did not realize that 'Chinook' winds were in other regions. I live in Washington and we will have the warm winds at time but I had never heard the term growing up in California. We don't get the interesting chinook arch clouds like in this picture. That would be neat to see. It was great to learn about those today.
