Friday's Fave Five #254

Welcome to Friday's Fave Fives!  Whew, it's been pretty busy in my life but this exercise slows me down and causes me to purposefully take a look at blessings in the busyness.  So glad to have you all join me in it!

1.  Trees turning golden.  Our row of Colorado Aspens up until now have just dropped boring, dull leaves.  With a couple of crazy wind storms most of the leaves that blew down were actually green, then eventually they turned an ugly blacky brown color on the ground.  But all of a sudden overnight, we have the golden glory.  Love when they all turn at the same time.  A feast for the eyes right in my backyard.

Haven't boosted the color at all in these photos.  Gor-ge-ous!

2.  The wonderful toy that leaves become when they fall.  When leaves turn golden, eventually come on down.  They then provide hours of play for the dayhome kidlets.  Throwing, piling, jumping, raking, shovelling, moving, driving trucks through.   Anything their imaginations can think of.  And believe me they think of all sorts of things to do with a pile of leaves.  It's awesome!

3.  The smell of said fallen leaves.  Love, love, love the scent of the fallen, crunchy leaves.  One of my favorite all times scents.  I can't get enough of sitting out there and taking a nice deep breath of it.

4.  Two heads are better than one.  A lady from church and myself spent a good hour at the church's power point/computer system last night trying to figure out how to get the Operation Christmas Child video working for my presentation on Sunday.  She is just learning the ins and outs of working the system and me, well, I have no clue and am totally not computer literate.  But between the two of us we clicked and thought and clicked and thought some more and we figured it out.  What was totally funny was we had to do it all over again because we didn't write the steps down so when we had to repeat it, we'd totally forgotten what the pattern was in all the missteps we'd taken.  But we did it again.  Hubby would be so proud of me because at home I so quickly default to him to "fix it" because I don't want to take the time to learn when he knows it all in this department.  But he wasn't around and neither was anyone else who knew what they were doing and me and S. just applied our selves and got the job done.  By the grace of God we didn't even crash the system.

5.  I already mentioned this but it makes the list because it was an absolute favorite and highlight of my week.  Meeting in person a young lady who, as a child, received and Operation Christmas Child box.  Hearing her speak and talking with her personally and learning how those little boxes changed her whole community was totally inspiring.  If you pack a box, never discount what your simple little gifts do in the life of a child!  Don't weary in packing them each year because they do so much that, this side of heaven, you will probably never realize.  To watch some powerful stories of how boxes have impacted children and whole communities you can go here!

Well that wraps up my five for this week.  What were your favorites this week?

I think the leaves are my favorite part of autumn--the smell, the crunch, the colors.
Hurray for Operation Christmas Child! Love that program!

Sounds like you're enjoying a beautiful autumn. It's so cool that you met a lady who received an Operation Christmas Child box! We love doing it every year. Several years ago, I wrote a short story to encourage kids to get involved. You can read it at http://bornagainandblessed.blogspot.com/2009/11/pencil-with-purpose.html . Have a blessed weekend!

Praise God that you were able to meet the young lady who received an OCC box!! That is one of my family's fave ministry!! In fact, I'm heading that project up for my small group of ladies! I love the scent of autumn leaves too....around here we are just at peak and in the mountains they are just past it.....enjoy that leaf play!!

Your golden aspens are gorgeous - we have a lot of them too. I love how the leaves make the rustling sound in the wind.

Your picture of the children jumping in the leaves brings back a lot of happy memories. Such simple childhood fun. And I bet they had rosy cheeks when they came in :)

It would be a gift to meet a child who received a Christmas shoebox. I'm sure it inspired you all to continue the good work. We need to get on the ball with ours. They're due in less than a month.

Congrats on figuring out the techie stuff. Well done!

Happy weekend Susanne. Thanks for hosting us so graciously each week! We appreciate you. xo

A friend recently went through a similar ordeal with slide-presenter software. Glad you were able to figure it out--and had fun doing it.

I so love the color of autumn leaves, and love to step on crunchy ones. How neat that they make for free entertainment, too!

Kudos to you and S for figuring out the system. I tend to default to my husband or sons for that kind of thing, too, and even when I do it, it takes me several attempts (and phone calls to them) to actually get it down to the point that I can remember and do it myself.

That is so neat about meeting the girl who received your Operation Christmas Child box. None of the churches we have ever been in has done that project.

That aspen was worth the wait! The kids look like they love it too.

Hurray for your success with Powerpoint. And I'm glad your meeting with *your* Christmas Child is on the list. Just too cool. Have a great weekend, Susanne. Hope your OCC campaign goes really well this year.

How cool to meet the young lady who received a shoe box! I wish our small organization could get involved in this program!

Smells! Yes, I am very fond of the sense of smell. Raking leaves, buring them, the fall air! Very nice!

I love that your dayhome kids find so much joy playing in the leaves! If only we adults could entertain ourselves so easily.

Blessings be upon you and all those who are involved with the shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse. What a worthy ministry!
