And just like that another one leaves the nest.

The employer contacted him yesterday and today he is packing the car to be out of town by noon.

I'm so thrilled for him that he got a job where he wanted at the moment.

I'm so sad it's up north.

I'm trying not to cry that he won't be here for Christmas.

I was dreading the day one of my fledglings would say they won't be home for Christmas and now it is upon me.

But spread their wings they must.  Jump out of the nest they must.

Did it have to happen so fast, though?  Could they not have given him, and me, a little warning?  Like say, a month or three?  Sigh.

Had I known, we could have done a family dinner and given him all his gifts but as it is nothing is even wrapped.  In a hurry, I wrapped the one gift I wanted him to open and that was an emergency road kit.  Yes, the gift that makes Mom feel better.

Sigh, Congratulations Son!  I really am incredibly happy for you!

Congratulations to your boy, but my goodness! One day's notice?! And at Christmas?! That just seems a little . . . abrupt. I'm sure you'll have proper perspective through it all, though. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Ahh Susanne, such bittersweet news. You are sharing very good perspective mixed in with your mom heart reaction. Sending hugs your way. God bless him as he ventures north!

Oh, that's hard. We've only had two Christmases so far with one away -- one when my middle son went to visit his then-fiancee's family just after they got engaged, and then last year when they went to her folks' for Christmas. We were able to have a time with them exchanging gifts, though. To have all this come up suddenly would be so hard.

Congratulations to him on the job, though. I'll be thinking about you and hope you have a few special moments before he has to leave.

Oh Susanne! You're in my thoughts and in my prayers. What conflicting emotions you must have...proud, but sad and disappointed too. I hope your boy enjoys his job and finds it fulfilling. I also hope you get to see him again soon.

What's a mamma bird to do but just as you have done? Best wishes to you both - your son in his new adventure and you as you miss him.

Ahhhhhh hun, it's such a double edged sword isn't it, you want them all independent but also want them there forever. Glad he got the road kit! Hugs.xxxxx
