8:20 A.M. It is wet.  It is heavy.   I've been out shovelling for 50 minutes.  My husband has been out for an hour and a half.  He's still out there.  We've pushed two cars out that got stuck being sucked into foot high drifts on the corner.  Winter has arrived in Southern Alberta and I haven't even dug out the hats, mitts and boots.

All I  thought of this morning was the African refugee family our church has sponsored and brought to Canada.  One month ago.  They will be in shock today!  Talk about not being eased into a new weather system.  Welcome to Canada, family.   Makes me think of this scene from one of my favorite movies, Cool Runnings.  It's loosely based on a true story of a Jamaican bobsled team who debuted at the Calgary Olympics in the '80's.  This scene is when the team leaves Jamaica and arrives at the Calgary airport never having experienced cold or snow before.

"I'm not smoking, I'm breathing!"  Cracks me right up! (If you've never seen this movie it is hilarious and touching!)

Maybe this picture of a lovely little butterfly sunning himself on my deck not even a week ago will warm you today.

Oh dear Susanne! I wasn't ready for that sight but I'm not the one shoveling!! That family will be amazed. One of our Soccer players that we acquired from Columbia arrived to Seattle in the snow and he talks about how shocked he was!
Hope the day goes well for you...

Wow! I love the cold & so wish we had more here in hot South Georgia but I DO NOT ENVY you today!

I wish I could invite you to my porch for a cup of coffee & pumpkin bread to help warm you!

we had a few flurries a week or so ago, then back up to 20! and now a more seasonable 8. Hope you get a Chinook soon - that will take care of the shovelling!

Wow! Just wow! I am SO not ready for that! We're experiencing a mini Indian-summer, I believe it can't be a real Indian summer because it hasn't gotten cold enough yet, it's supposed to be in the 70's all this week.

Good luck!

LOL....seriously....wow....we enjoyed a nice "indian summer" day today with temps in the low 60s (F) and pretty morning sun. altho tonite it is a bit chilly with some drizzley rain!

Well, it sure seems you've plunged deep into fall! And so has that African family. No illusory Indian summers here!

I don't think I could live in an area with that kind of winter, unless God really wanted me to, and then I'd have to rely on Him for a lot of grace.

That was definitely a funny movie.
