Friday's Fave Five #184

Welcome to another edition of Friday's Fave Five.  It's time to take a moment and look back over the week to find blessings in our lives no matter the week we've been having.  Sometimes it's hard and sometime's it's easy but it is always worth it.  Please join us and we make a choice to look for good things in our lives.

1.  A Saturday off with hubby.  Working in retail, hubby rarely gets a Saturday off.  But he had one this last weekend, and we actually able to take advantage of it and spend the whole day doing this and that together.  The day happened to fall on our realty company's customer appreciation day at a local movie theatre.  With the invitation comes a free movie complete with popcorn and a drink.  For the whole family and even a friend.     Fun Saturday morning for us.  We then tried the new IHop in town and spent a couple of hours shopping for things we needed for the house.

2.  "We Bought A Zoo" was the movie we picked and I really enjoyed the story.  That being said, for a family movie it does have it's moments I felt are definitely not for little kids including some "mild" swearing throughout the movie and one filthy mouth moment of the movie's adorable little co-star.  (*Warning:  rant coming!*  The addition of which aforementioned filthy mouth comment, in my opinion, was totally needless and did not add anything to the show, but Hollywood seems to think it's funny when little kids let loose on some inappropriate comment they've heard an adult say and their hideous need to put this into every family movie and produce a shock moment is getting old!  Seriously people, it's not funny as evidenced by the fact that no one in the theatre laughed.  *End of Rant*).  And there are some drawings shown, drawn by the character of the grieving and hurt teen boy that in my opinion might be disturbing to younger children.  But the story is good, the characters well acted making you care about them and it is based on a true story (which I didn't know before we went).  Great for a family with older children.

3.  Anne of Green Gables.  First time I'm ever reading it in spite of watching the series almost yearly and I am totally loving it.  I've been laughing and smiling through Anne's innocence and antics and Marilla's responses.  In some scenes I have the show running through my head as I read it and it is making the read extra enjoyable indeed.

4.  The smell of spring in the air.   It rained a touch the other day and I can honestly say it smells like spring now.  Fresh and washed.  Love it.

5.  Red Grapes.  Over the last three weeks I cut refined sugar out of my diet and red grapes have been my saving grace when I've felt overwhelming sweet cravings.  God's candy, I would say.

Nothing like NOT being able to have something and craving it! Glad God's Candy was available and so nicely packaged, too :-) Hurray that you have a little taste of spring. It certainly isn't easy to find clean entertaining films. Hope you have a springy weekend!

Cutting the refined sugar will be good for you--I recommend apples too. They're sweet and crunchy so you get the extra satisfaction of the crunch.

I read the Anne books years before I saw the movies--still prefer the books :)

The best way to learn bad words is going to see a movie ! In the French comedies it's so awful that it isn't even funny, so I think it over twice before going to see one !
Spring is in the air here too and it starts to smell good !

Glad you had a fun Saturday with your hubby. I agree that the bad words in movies are not funny and not necessary at all. I enjoyed watching Anne of Green Gables but I have never read the book yet.

Enjoy God's candy and spring :)!

Weight Watchers warns us not to eat too much grapes, as there is a lot of sugar in them. I eat all kinds of fruit, but hardly ever grapes. I had a lot of quality time with my hubby as well this week. That is always such a treat, isn't it? Have a great weekend Susanne!

So funny that you posted about the grapes because they were on sale in our area this week and I bought a couple of bunches....to replace the refined sugar loaded granola bars I like! the grapes are soooo much better!! I LOVE anne of green gables..have read the whole series and enjoy the movie. Haven't seen the zoo movie yet....it's on our list but that's too bad about a little kid swearing....they really don't have to include that! The date with hubby sounds awesome. enjoy your weekend susanne! tomorrow is the day Dave and I get to meet Gary Chapman...Love Languages Conference at our church!!!!!

Yay for Anne! It sounds like you enjoy the simple, like me.

Good for you cutting out refined sugar...and finding something sweet to satisfy!

I am a huge fan of red grapes! I buy them anytime they are on sale.

I'm so glad you like Anne! I love the books so much more than the movies - but of course, I love both.

I've been thinking about seeing the movie "I bought a Zoo." Too bad Hollywood thinks bad language is okay. It's never okay in my book!

We love Anne around here. I'm glad I finally picked up the books and read them. I loved her prayers to God in the first book. Glad you had a good Saturday with hubby. Have a great weekend.

Oh, Susanne, you are woman after my own heart! I rant about the language and situations they put into movies that add nothing and push the envelope on the rating game. I'm always firing off emails to the movie studios. So many kids are totally desensitized it makes me mad!

Sorry to add my own mini rant. I love that you had Saturday time with your husband, and that you are getting some hints of Spring. Things are finally blooming here, and it's worth every sniffle.

Anne of Green Gables.. Wonderful!

Anne is one of my favorites! And Spring...ah, Spring!

I uncovered a baby rabbit in its hole in our yard while I was raking last night. I know he'll eat my garden, but I couldn't bear to shoo him away. He was so soft and cuddly looking!

Remind me of that when I don't have any green peppers or beans this year, will you? :)

Duh -- I didn't get my FFF up until just after lunch time, but then I forgot to link it up til just now.

How neat to have a day off together!

I agree 100% with your rant.

So glad you're loving Anne! The first film is pretty close to the book.

I should probably do that with sugar. I don't have the heart or will to, but I probably should.

I saw We Bought a Zoo but don't remember the scene you are talking about. Oh well, now that I don't view the world through a kid lens (my youngest is 28) I totally miss these types of scenes. I do agree, they are totally unnecessary even if I don't remember them.

However, nothing objectionable in the Anne books. Definitely a fave with me too (book or movie).

I cut out most refined sugar and corn syrup out of my diet a few months back. I am trying to cook with more honey and maple syrup when I need a sugar.

Snack cravings I have gone to apples (which are an estrogen food and supports the hormonal system when hormones are raging) and nuts.

For my killer cravings from Dr. Pepper (my soda choice) I have become dependent upon Good Earth's original blend which is super spicy and a bit sweet, but naturally sweet. It's a great go to for that sweet drinkable spicy craving.
