Friday's Fave Five #89

Welcome to Friday's Fave Five. Join us for looking back over our weeks and finding our five favorite things. If you need details take a peek here first and then just join on in! This look back over the week looking for the good things is all at once hard for me this week but also exactly what I need. It's a good habit to look for the good things of life, those things, those people, those moments that God has blessed us with.

1. 3 lbs. lost in spite of the fact that my sad week culminated in a total no-control, no-holds barred pig out the other night. I'm an emotional eater and have totally fought that all my life. I did pretty good this past couple of weeks, really trying hard not to find the happy in the food, but Wednesday night I just gave in to it. But when I weighed Thursday morning, imagine my surprise when there was 3 lbs. missing. Now that made me happy! So please don't rain on my parade and give me some reasonable explanation. Just work with me on this one. LOL.

2. K. being chosen valedictorian. As you may or may not know, my oldest daughter, K., has been away at bible school for the past two years. It's a very, very small church affiliated bible school but she has done this Mom and Dad very proud over the last couple of years. It's been very exciting seeing her grow and get grounded in the Word of God and to see her mature and develop her own faith. We've seen her challenged and excited as they've done some mission trips and watched her take on her studies with great passion. The students have chosen her to be the valedictorian for the end of the year banquet. We're very proud of her. Congratulations, K.!

3. Getting the grill fired up for the first time. I finally got the bbq going this last week and have used it twice already. I love bbq'd food. And this year I'm determined to give a lot more recipes with grilled veggies a try. I've got corn in my fridge awaiting it's turn.

4. Roasted Asparagus. Fresh asparagus, extravirgin olive oil, a dash of salt, fresh ground pepper, a couple pinches of italian seasoning and freshly shredded parmesan cheese (not the powdered stuff but the real shredded stuff in the deli department). Bake in a single layer on a baking sheet at 425*F for 10 minutes. My mouth waters as I think of it.

5. It's Friday, the start to a long weekend. I'm so looking forward to this weekend. I have great plans for a late start, a housecoat, a coffee and some blog and book reading. I think a haircut is in there somewhere too, and maybe if the weather cooperates a bbq. If not, I have a pack of ribs in the freezer that will do just dandy in the crockpot. Rain or shine I'm going to enjoy every moment of the weekend.

So what are your favorite moments that blessed you and lifted your spirit this week? If you do a post, please link up and then enjoy visiting the other participants.

Hi Susanne, Congrats on losing the weight and for hanging in there during a difficult week. And congrats to K, too! What a confirmation of all her hard work. That asparagus sounds delicicous! Here where I live, the asparagus is almost done for the season. We've been eating the bundles we picked up at the farmers market nearly every day. Love it!

Way to go on the weight loss Suzanne - I struggle with the same thing. Especially if I'm tired. Yikes! But I'm working on learning to eat when hungry and stop when full.

You must be so proud of K. What an honour!! Will she be home for the summer?

Mmm that asparagus sounds good. I've never tried parmesan on it. I'll put it on the list. Thanks!

Hope you have a wonderfully relaxing weekend!

Love
Kathie

Well Congrats to your daughter....that is so exciting. And I bet so neat to see her grow in the Word of God!
And good for you for losing 3 lbs.....that is how it often is with me, I work hard, eat well and lose nothing. But eat a bit more, don't work out and shed a few pounds.....there must be some scientific explanation for it??!!
Enjoy your weekend!!

I love your plans for the weekend. I've got a lovely long weekend ahead of me too. It's always nice to look back upon things, but it's even niver to look forward, isn't it? Your asparagus recipe sounds delicious. I'm going to enjoy the white ones again tomorrow. My mouth waters just thinking of it. Congrats on the weight loss. Sometimes giving in is just what the doctor ordered!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Congrats to you on the weight loss and to K on being named valedictorian!

My husband is the master griller here. I tried once and burned the burgers, but I ought to try again, because he is not always home when I am making dinner. He is also an asparagus fan. I'm not fond of them, but they might be a lot better roasted than boiled or steamed.

Have a great long weekend!

Awesome job on the weight loss, and your daughter to making valedictorian!

We grilled out for the first time this week, too!

Sorry you had a difficult week, but glad you know to look for the joy!

THAT'S AN AWESOME WEIGHT LOSS! I do the same thing - try to find the happy in the food, as you say. I gave in this week and lost 1.5 lbs. Which makes me re question the WHOLE WORLD! =D haha. Ok, back to being good...and losing more the RIGHT way. (But it's pretty awesome, isn't it?)

My weight does that too. After being good for a week I will lose hardly anything and then after a muffin (or something) binge, I will suddenly drop. Its crazy.

We love roasted asparagus too and eat it often. Any kind of roasted vegies are delicious to us.

Congrat's to your daughter! You must be so proud!

The asparagus sounds wonderful. Unfortunately, I'm the only one in my family that likes it, so I don't cook it very often!

Each week your lists are great, but there's just something about this one that seems to put it over the top. GREAT list!

Congrats on the 3 lbs. I celebrate every little bit too so I get it. :-)

WOW. Congrats to all of you on your daughter being selected valedictorian. HUGE accomplishment! Of course the greatest accomplishment is her choosing to grow in the faith as her own.

I enjoy a good BBQ and we've already had several. In fact, last week my hubby told me I should maybe plan something different for awhile as I think I had him at the grill for 4 days in a row. Oooops. :-)

Your roasted asparagus sounds delish!! And I'm looking forward to this being Friday and the weekend as well.

Things in our schedule but planning to take put relax time in there too!

Happy Housecoat, reading and coffee weekend to you friend!

I almost didn’t do FFF today because it was hard looking back over my week, too. But I’m glad I did. It always makes me more thankful. Thank you for being such a faithful hostess!

Congrats on losing 3 lbs! I would love to lose 3 lbs. Instead I gained 2 lbs. And congrats to you and you daughter on her accomplishment; that’s wonderful.

COngratulations on weigh loss!! Who cares how they come off, just so they do.
You are doing good!

Your asparagus recipe sounds good. I tried something like that last spring, but without the parmesan. I overcooked it and haven't tried it since.

I'm so far behind in reading my favorite blogs! But, wanted to stop and say congrats to your daughter for her achievement. How proud you must be!

I LOVE asparagus, however it's cooked. It's in season right now and so delicious.
