Friday's Fave Five #66

Updated with Mr. Linky! Sorry guys, I have no idea why Mr. Linky did come to the party. But he's here now!

Hello and welcome to another week of Friday's Fave Five! Hope you all are staying warm. If you're new, don't be afraid to join in, just go here for the details then grab the button and get started. We're always happy to have someone new join us.

1. A teen who does a chore without being asked. A nice treat when one of my teenagers will remember to do a chore such as unload the dishwasher or clean their rooms or wipe out a sink without me having to remind them or get on their case about it. Thanks guys.

2. Homemade Turtles Chocolates. A co-oworker of hubby's gave out homemade Turtles and he was kind enough to share one with me. Oh my word, they were good. Not overly sweet and very caramely and chocolatey and pecany. Yum!

3. Snow. Yes, the snow made my favorites list. Now I wasn't nuts about the way it came down, or the couple of absolutely frigid days in the -40's (celcius and farenheight) with the wind chill, but today was beautiful. Now I feel like it's the Christmas season.

And even as I type this I'm thinking of my friends down east in Ontario who are feeling the brunt of the storm now. Stay warm guys and stay inside until it passes.

4. Cozy sweaters and sweatshirts. Yup, those came out of the drawer this week and boy they were nice and certainly helped to keep me warm.

5. My clothes dryer. I know that is a funny thing to have on a favorites list, but this week when I was stuffing some clothes in to get dry, I remembered when I was a kid that my mom never used to have a dryer. I remember her hanging all the wash out on the line. Now that is lovely in the spring, summer and some of fall, and there certainly is no fabric softener or dryer sheet that can quite match that wonderful smell of fresh air and sunshine in your clothes and bedding. But I also remember in the winter her hands would be beet red and frozen from hanging the stuff out, and they never totally dried outside when it was really cold. They just froze and then she'd have to rehang them inside to finish drying. So my dryer made my favorites list.

What are your favorites for the week? If you've done a post, please sign the Mr. Linky so that we can come and visit.

It does feel good when the kids do things without being asked.

I'm enjoying our snow too. I love the way the lights reflect off it. So pretty and Christmassy.

Homemade Turtles Chocolates - mmm mm- they sound too good. I'm going to try and find a recipe online.

Happy weekend Suzanne!

I remember my mother hanging clothes out to dry, too. But I'm thankful I don't have to! Yea for dryers.

The snow is beautiful. I can't even imagine those temps though. Wow.

(I didn't see Mr. Linky up yet?)

Great list! I agree about children who do chores without being asked! :)

I'm writing my list now and will be back to add the link.

Minus 40s celcius and fahrenheits?! OMG, that will be interesting! Here we get 28 C and everyone starts panicking lol...

I remember my mother used to compliment me when I did chores without being asked :) That was rare ops...busted myself. I kinda wish I were a teen-ager again, for a bit if only to please mother one more time about chores.

Your snow looks so charming!

#1 is indeed a blessing!

I LOVE turtles. I've never had homemade ones.

We were without a dryer for several years. I didn't like having to plan laundry around the weather or bring in bugs or bird poop with the laundry, and if anyone has allergies, you can't really hang anything out in the springtime without getting pollen on it. I love my dryer, too!!

Still no Mr. Linky appearing yet. Mine is here:

Oooh, snow is always exciting!! :)

Yes! My mother had TWINS with cloth diapers -- and no dryer. She used to tell of having to go out and CRACK them! I don't know how she did it. WE are spoiled!

I would sO love that recipe for homemade turtles! Now THAT I would find impossible to stay away from. Turtles are my favorite candy ever!

You have WONDERFUL teens to do their chores without being reminded... again... or again! That would sure be a favorite!

Some unusual things on your list, Susanne -- but I'm glad the snow is adding to the warm cozy Christmasy feel.

Love a teen who does a chore!! Love your thoughts about the dryer! And with that crazy cold you had, you would NOT want to hang anything out there!!!! Great way of thinking about doing the dreaded laundry! Thanks for the perspective.

Didn't see Mr. Linky yet either, he must be frozen!!! Ha Ha

My clothes dryer DIED when my oldest was a baby, so I remember to be grateful for it quite often - it DOES make life so much easier.

WE HAD THAT BIG STORM, TOO! Sure is pretty right now, though.

You raised your kids right, Susanne. I hope mine turn out as well.

I just had my daughter do the dishes last night without being asked! I should have put that on my favorite list. Anyway, I went and gave her a hug right away and told her I was proud of her. Gotta reinforce good behavior!

I'm very thankful for dryers, too. When I was a stay at home mom, I hung out the clothes in the spring and summer all the time, but as soon as it got cold, I started using my dryer.

Susanne said...

Oh Beck. That doesn't happen all the time. But when it does it sure makes me happy. :v)

Carrie said...

And with that note of explanation I would say that a clothes dryer is a FABULOUS thing to be thankful for, yes!!! =D

Thank you for hosting.

great list. I can only imagine those turtle chocolates. they sound gooood.
That snow looks cold. Make sure to stay warm!
Happy weekend.

For the many years we lived in a third world country, I had no washer or dryer. When I arrived in the US and saw my automatic washer and dryer, I literally leaned over and kissed them. It's wonderful when anyone does a chore!

Karen said...

Great list, Suzanne. I remember #5, too. Especially all the wet winter clothes from playing in the snow. Hanging them on a clothesline in the basement near the furnace, hoping they would dry out before our next venture outdoors!

Teens acting without being prompted is definitely a favorite! WOW! :-)

Chocolate would be a no brainer favorite for me. YUM!

Your words about the dryer makes me suddenly so very grateful for mine. I guess I won't begrudge all the time I will be spending in front of one today trying to get caught up on the laundry.

And snow, I can't believe I'm saying this, but now that Christmas is quickly approaching I think I am actually ready for a little. Notice I said a LITTLE! :-)

Happy Friday!

Oh boy, do I remember my mom hanging clothes in the basement in the winter. We had long clotheslines running the length of the basement and as a kid, it would seem almost creepy to go down there and have to navigate between the clothes. And it is frigid here, by the way. We've got the strong winds and cold temps now. Brrrr!

How good is that that a child does something without being asked. I remember my mom also using a clothes line in the back yard. The clothes were so fresh smelling :) Great week. Have a good Friday :)

AH...a teen who does chores without being asked. That would also top my list! but..here in my home, i usually have to ask or at least SUGGEST LOUDLY! lol...mine is now up..not sure why it didn't post earlier!!

THose chocolates sound soooo good!! I have been loving the fudge.....

Oh I remember hanging clothes to dry! It wasn't all bad though as they sure did smell good. But I agree - clothes dryers are a blessing indeed!

We didn't have a washer or a dryer. We had to go to the laundromat. In freezing cold temps even. I love my washer and dryer very much.

Melanie @ This Ain't New York said...

I'm thankful for the dryer in the winter for a different reason. My mom used to warm my jeans in the morning. I used to warm my daughter's baby comforter and wrap her up and snuggle in the mornings.

Great list! I'm so with you on 1,3 and 5 :). Have a wonderful week.

Karyn said...

As always, a great list. Except for the snow. Sorry, but I wouldn't mind a 'brown' Christmas. Or at least a white Christmas that was warm (relatively speaking).

Helpful teens are always a blessing - kinda makes you think maybe you did something right after all, doesn't it? :)

I've used a clothesline in the summertime (only because I had to) and the thing I appreciate about dryers is that the jeans come out nice and soft instead of all stiff as they do on the line.

Keep warm as we live in a deep freeze for awhile! I've heard it is supposed to be up around 0 for Christmas. (crossing my fingers it is true)
