A Quick, but Big, Question

Just stopping in on my little blogging break to ask a really quick question. I know JoLynne at Musings of a Housewife asked her readers this question, and I read every single answer, but I'm still on the fence. Especially when I'm getting articles like this sent to me. And yet health officials here are pushing for it. And yet the news is saying that it contains a controversial something or other. And yet, and yet, and yet. It's so confusing.

So here in my area the H1N1 flu shots start next week. So I want to know what you guys who come around here think of it? Is your family getting it? I want your honest feedback.

Susanne, I will not be getting the shot. Hubster probably will. I usually end up sicker than a dog within a week after getting any kind of flu shot, so I'm opting out.

Now watch me get a raging case of it...

I haven't decided yet either.

There seems to be conflicting evidence - as well as a lot of alarmist information. It's hard to know what to do.

I came over here to catch up with you, after being sadly remiss, and read that you had such severe back pain you ended up in the ER. Oh my word, Susanne, I hope you're better.

Your weather is nuts. Just nuts. But beautiful. :-)

And about the flu shot? We don't plan to get the vaccine. It makes me very nervous when there are questions about it's safety. I hope we don't end up regretting it of course, but I don't plan to be one of the sorry ones if the govt. comes out with a big "oops - we goofed."

We're not getting it. I am wary of many vaccinations, though my children are all up to date with theirs. But this one was so rushed, and so many people are concerned about its safety that I'd rather take my chances with the flu.

First I hope your back is doing better my friend and more importantly you as a whole :)

I get the regular flu shot and I'm undecided on this one. It seems like it was created real quickly. But I'm usually one to get the most protection I can, not only for my health but other things like my computer etc so I will most likely be getting it. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Susanne: we will not be getting that shot for a couple of reasons: too new....and we are hardly ever sick with flu. I Think it is mainly hyped up due to the media. Yes we have children out with flu like symptoms from school. Both of my daughters have each had one cold since school began. We are trusting the Lord for our health like always and eating right, getting enough sleep and staying active, and using lots of hand gel when out of the house! OH....my youngest also takes a multi vitamin.
I only get my children vaccinated for the diseases like chicken pox, polio, HPV, etc. etc.

I've never really taken time to think thoroughly through the flu shot/no flu shot decision. I very rarely get the flu and have only ever gotten the shot once (about 10 years ago). So I won't be getting any shots (for flu anyway) this year.

We are not getting it because, IMO, the shot is simply too new. Not enough time for testing or to see what long-term effects it has. We are, instead, hand-washing Nazis.

The Professor and I are not getting the shots. We do work with students (4th-12th grades, and university) but we don't see any benefit to the shots at this time as we are not prone to getting the flu. And, yes, Chris, I'll probably get a whopping case of it too, because I said that!

I don't think I'll be getting it Susanne. My husband has other health issues, so we'll talk to his doctor about it and see what she thinks. I just have some real misgivings about it.

I hasve never had a flu shot in my life, and I'm not starting with this one. I have had FLU twice in my life... and I've lived to tell it! (would rather NOT do it again - but I'm not getting the shot to prevent it.) I have a feeling my college student will be forced to get it -- not sure on that yet. The rest of my family won't get it.

I am not getting it because I am uncomfortable with the way it is being pushed on us. I feel a little manipulated and I just don't like being told what to do. And I have never gotten a flu vaccine.
