Friday's Fave Five #8

Hello and welcome to another addition of Friday's Fave Five! If you are new here you can go here to read the details and you can grab the button code from the sidebar. I've been loving going and reading everyone's favorite things from their weeks. Don't forget to add yourself to Mr. Linky so that we can all come and visit.

1. One of my fave "must watch tv" shows, The Amazing Race, started this week. Yay. I love this show. The idea of racing all over the world and doing things you'd probably never, ever do otherwise, appeals to me. Kay and I have always said this is something we'd like to do together. Although that in itself would be interesting as we both can be bossy. LOL. I also like the psychological aspect of the show. How different people with different personalities, relationships, and values deal with the extreme pressures of a race, being thrown in the midst of unknown and unfamiliar cultures and countries, having to dig deep and fast in decision making, and the competiveness that arises amongst themselves and within themselvesto win the money and how it plays out with their personalities and emotions. I find that fascinating.

2. Fresh veggies from my mom's garden. We're still being blessed with cukes, carrots, onions and luscious tomatoes from my mom's garden. There is nothing like a homegrown vegetable. Even the dayhome preschooler's can tell the difference between and homegrown carrot and the store's and are quick to request Nagymama's carrots. And the tomaotes ripened on the vine. I can't get enough of them. Just sliced and salted. In a sandwich with ham or turkey, on toasted bread with Miracle whip. Yummy!

3. Indian summer. We've had absolutely gorgeous weather this last week. The skies have been beautiful blue with the colored leaves of the trees standing out against them. Sunny and warm with just barely a breeze. Just perfect.

4. This interesting page from Christianbook.com. It's an author comparison page so that if you like a certain author it will list others who write in the same style. A fun way to try out new authors.

5. Layered Dip and Nacho chips. Oh my word. So easy and so good. Take 1 can white kidney beans, add 1/4 c. sour cream and 2 Tbsp. taco seasoning and whirl in blender or food processor until smooth. Place in glass dish about approximately 8x8 inches. Now add a layer of guacamole about 2 cups(available in most deli sections of supermarkets or make your own. I got mine at costco). Next blend a cup of light sour cream and a cup of light cream cheese and add as the next layer. Now a layer of salsa. Now a layer of shredded cheese. You can top off with any combo of shredded lettuce, sliced olives, green onions, red peppers, diced fresh tomatoes or pickled jarred jalepenos. Refridgerate a couple of hours before serving. Mexican heaven on a plate!

So what's your favorite five things from your week?

Yum! I love layered dip too.

Ok, I know that I have a few more than five favorite things...but just had to list my sixteen favorite things to do with my sixteen month old. Thanks for hosting this!

Yippee for the Amazing Race starting up again. We were sad about the kind old hippies having to leave :0)
The dip sounds yummy. Nothing like fresh veggies for sure. I hope your back is getting back to normal. Have a great weekend.

Thanks, again, for hosting this. I have a hard time sticking with just 5. A good problem to have, I think! I second/third/fourth the comments on the layered dip. Sounds delish.

This is a great exercise and I enjoy doing it! Even when I had a not-so-great week, as this past week, it makes me stop and take stock of my blessings which are many. Thanks again!

Were still eating fresh tomatoes from the garden too - nothing like them!

I hope you're feeling better soon.

BTW - those were acorns :)

Ack! I was thinking I hadn't heard from you in a while (since last Friday) and clicked over -- and have somehow missed the posts this week! Bloglines had a little red exclamation point beside your blog name and the posts haven't been coming through, at least for me. I am so sorry to hear about your back. Hope it is better now.

I love The Amazing Race, too! I could never do it, though.

That author page is intriguing. Except I have so many books to be read already...my list is ever growing!

Take care!

I can't grow a tomato to save my life. If I could, I'd dig up my whole back yard and plant tomatoes everywhere. Nothing in the world taste as wonderful as a tomato right off the vine.

I hope your back is feeling a lot better by now. Thank goodness for friends who show up to help right when you really need them.

I read your post yesterday, posted my own FFF, and signed Mr. Linky. It wasn't until you posted on my blog today that I realized I forgot to comment here!

I envy you the fresh veggies, though we did get blessed with a lot this summer from friends and neighbors.

Thanks for the christian author tip link; that should come in very handy!

The nacho dip recipe has me drooling on my keyboard. Thanks for sharing it! :-)

What do you do if you don't have a blender or pulverizer thing?

The nacho dip sure sounds good. Especially since I haven't had supper yet!
I have never seen The Amazing Race. Now I'm curious and will have to if it's available here.

I LOVE The Amazing Race! It would be so fun to do but some of those things I wouldn't be able to do.
That recipe looks good.
I hope to join in on this one again later.
