Them Olympics can be downright hazardous!

This morning I have a friendly piece of advice. And that would be never put on a pot of salted water to boil and then allow yourself to just go and check "one" blog while the Olympics are playing on the television. Because you know you can never read just one. And something will happen in the Olympics that will grab your attention. And said pot will boil dry. And a funny smell will start wafting through your house.

That's when it will dawn on you that "Oh shoot, I had a pot on the stove". And you'll go tearing into the kitchen only to find there is not a drop of water in the pot and the salt, well, it is a-sizzling. Did you know salt sizzles? Trust me, it does. So you grab the pot off the stove, and remembering in the back of your mind that if you pour cold water into it, said pot will warp, you throw the pot onto the cutting board to cool down. Don't ask how I know the pot will warp. That's a whole other post.

So thinking you've got some time for that darn pot to cool, you go back to your Olympic/blog perusing. Again. You'd a thought I would have clued into the problem. For you will come back to this:

And it was bad. It actually lifted the arborite right off the board. Thank God I had enough presence of mind to put it on the cutting board and not on the counter top. The Olympics will do this to you, people.

I was trying to make rice for the mixture to stuff these babies:

Aren't they gorgeous? In spite of the slight delay they still turned out like this:

MMMM, yum! Were you observant enought to note the different baking pan, though? That's because certain family members scarfed some down before I could take a picture. And that left big spaces in the roasting pan. A pretty picture they did not make that way. You would have been asking what happened to them! But they were deeeelish! And being the good little Hungarian girl that I am, they were served with a side of sour cream.

So all's well that end's well. In the food department anyway. Not so much for the cutting board or Canada's medal hopes. They both bring tears to the eyes.

Oh, a kitchen mishap because of the Olympics. LOL

Poor pot. Poor cutting board. But those stuffed peppers look wonderful.

I've never seen peppers that color. Gorgeous!

Yikes girl! Okay so I have no idea what those purple things are. They look like a pepper. Is that bad, should I know this? Very interesting!

Dad grew purple peppers this year too. They are good!

I have an award for you over at my blog.

Oh, too funny, Susanne...I've actually done this with cooking dinner and thinking I had time to just read one or two blogs while something was boiling. Wrong!!! LOL

And I've been glued to the Olympics this week, too!

We're not doing so well are we? I'm not watching too much but I keep my ear to the results.

I did the same to a pot but I was cooking beets... not good.

They do look delicious Susanne. I'm so glad to see someone else does things like that. I was beginning to think perhaps I should start looking into a good Nursing Home for myself!

Oh my gosh!! I have done that too and yes salt does sizzle. I don't wathc the olympics but tend to get carried away with other things.
The peppers are so pretty. What kind are they?

those bell-peppers are beautiful! what kind are they? I usually only see red or green or yellow here in Ca.

First of all, those peppers were beautiful. I have never seen them colored like that before. Secondly, I think you've been secretly taping me and copying my kitchen antics. I boiled over chicken stewing yesterday. Reason? Computer distraction!

To get those white spots out of your pot, boil a little bit of water with some cream of tartar (spice section) and they should go away.

I am guessing those are bell peppers? I've never seen any that color. Lovely, and I bet they were so good.
