More Mish Mash and Menu Plan Monday

I haven't been doing a good job sticking to the menu plan at all. I'm still getting the hang of all the conflicting work schedules for everyone so once again, there might be repeats on here. And who knows how much I'll be sticking to it.

Monday: grilled burgers, coleslaw
Tuesday: grilled cheddar smokies, pasta/veggie salad
Wednesday: Layered Potato Casserole (with leftover smokies), mixed beans
Thursday: Chicken Pineapple Curry (from Island Sparrow)
Friday: Pizza
Saturday: Pork and Brussel Sprout with spaghetti
Sunday: grilled steaks, baked potato, roasted veggies

So how was everyone's weekend? Ours was busy as usual. I can't seem to get away from that lately. But one can always learn things no matter how busy they are, right? Here's a few things I learned this weekend.

I learned:
-when the city says they have free wood chip for the public to help themselves to, you probably don't want it.
-wood chip or bark in a bag at the store is e.x.p.e.n.s.i.v.e!
-I need about 16 bags of said wood chip
- I will probably have bare dirt for another year.

I learned:
-Driver's Ed lessons are e.x.p.e.n.s.i.v.e.!
-maybe more expensive than any savings in insurance?

I learned:
-I was delusional thinking shopping for a swim suit for son would be easier than shopping for girls
-said son is very picky
-said son doesn't like a whole bunch of colors
-said son thinks swim suits one inch above the knee are too short
-swimsuits don't come below the knees
-board shorts suffice as swim suits
-board shorts come below the knees

I learned:
-when a 13 yr. old interrupts your instructions with "I know, I know", they really don't know.

I learned:
-Chinese dinner for 8 will feed 12

I learned:
-if I don't water these every single day, they will flop
-they don't look so nice flopped over

So what'd you learn this weekend?

That board shorts lesson is very valuable, I'm told!

Did you have lots of Chinese leftovers? Or just get lucky on ordering for fewer and having enough? My hubby always goes for the full servings so he can have lunch the next day!

And pansies bounce right back up when you water them again. I love that about them! (As long as you haven't gone all week or so without water . . .)

Wow what great lessons!

Love all the things you learned especially buying those trunks! I didn't learn that much. What I did learn is that it is very hard to get anything done in 100+ temps! It has cooled down today so I'm off and running :0)

Let me know how you like the chicken dish. It's a favourite here.

oh yes...I have some floppy tomatoes in the garden.

swimsuits...

I'm looking for one myself

it's a depressing task.

Oh yes I have learned some of those similar lessons! :)
My 13 yo son has such LONG legs, everything is short on him, I think he is coming to accept it better. He knows if he wants things longer he needs to be pulling them up constantly...or they will fall off! Unlike the latest style some boys wear with their pants halfway down their legs!!
As for the wood chips, yes I know it is expensive, we bought just a little this year, for a few needed areas.
Oh and yes I have also learned about 13 year old with the "I know, I know, I know Mom!"
Yep, they still are not wiser than old mom, despite what they think. I will be happy to back you up on that one if your 13 year old would like to email me. :)
Have a good day!!!!

Oh, the Chinese food cracked me up, Susanne. But that's what I love about Chinese food - leftovers!

I learned shopping for fabric all day + lunch out with daughter = exhausted wife who opts out of cooking dinner at all.

So we're having our Sunday dinner tonight - Monday night. Sigh.

Wow....you learned alot! :)

I learned that carrying 2 kayaks and bushwhacking our way to the pond is not a good idea.

One of my pastor's favorite sayings about teens is that "They don't know that they don't know," which makes it hard to tell them anything. :-)

I wanted to do Driver's Ed. with the boys, but my husband said it didn't give us a significant amount in savings in insurance, so he taught them. I still thought Driver's Ed. would be a good idea to cover all the bases, but the two older boys have done fine driving -- the only accident wasn't their fault. My youngest will start learning to drive this fall. :-0

My youngest got back from camp Saturday, so we heard about his week and did lots of laundry. :-) Today we visited the assisted living place where Jim's mom will be staying and made a list of what we need for her room and started getting some of it.

Conflicting schedules sometimes seem to be a way of life for the stage you're in with your kids! It can be hard to deal with at times but you'll love every minute of it I'm sure.
Let's see, what did I learn? I learned Lifeway is out of the bible study book I'm trying to order for me and my girls; I learned the hard way I shouldn't leave a potholder on my ceramic cooktop! I learned/was reminded in our sunday school lesson from Proverbs that many times the wise thing to do is to be silent instead of saying something, a continual thing I need to be reminded of sometimes!

I'm starving after reading this post!! lol!! Hmmmm... what did I learn this weekend... I learned that life is fragile. A 28-year-old from our church was shot and killed in a random act of violence last Thursday, leaving behind a wife and 2 very young kids. Sad, but eye opening lesson. We are not promised tomorrow. On a lighter note, I learned that even though my 8-year-old pretends like she doesn't want me to hug on her in front of her friends, she makes up for it when she hugs me good night!

Those are some great lessons learned! Many of which I too have learned with teenagers in my house.

Wow look at all you've learned, just think about how much smarter you are now lol. I don't think I've learned anything other than popping popcorn for 300 students is A LOT of work!!!

Haven't had to deal with the board shorts yet...We love chinese ..yum..and that mckenna is so much fun these days..that's what I'm learning..

I think that driver's ed is worthwhile, regardless - it does result in a much safer teenaged driver.
I learned that my Boy is going to have to take the same level of swimming lessons in the fall, which means that I'm going to have to grab him a new set up swim shorts this summer when they go on sale. Humph!

I love Chinese food and leftovers.

Beautiful pansies.

I learned that good intentions don't get the job done. Where does the time go?

What great lessons you learned and inadvertently taught me some things too LOL

My son is the same way. The longer the trunks, the better. It reminds me of old fashioned pics you see of men in 1896 who had those striped one-piecers on!

I learned not to pull weeds in beauty bark without gloves. I am a be-slivered and wiser lady today!

"I learned:

Same with 11 yr olds...

I learned that you can't trust Mr. Right with your dessert.

I've also learned that I can kill flowers away from home as well as when I'm there.

I've learned that life is awfully good when you can relax with your best friend.
