8 Random Things meme

I am soooo behind on memes that I have been tagged for I'm actually, gasp, going to do two posts today. If you're looking for Menu Plan Monday it's just below.

Melissa from des Leben der Lundquisten tagged me for a 8 random things about me meme. Seems easy enough so I'll start with this one. By the way, Melissa and her husband, Eric, are missionaries in Vienna, Austria. How cool is that. Her blog is full of wonderful tidbits of life over there and learning the language so that they can minister to the people there. Sometimes when we think of missionaries our minds always go to third world type of countries. But there are many countries around the world, even the "privilaged" ones, who have a form of religion but do not know Jesus as personal savior and friend. That is where Melissa and Eric minister.

So, on we go with 8 random things about me that I have never written before. Okay, this might not be as easy as I thought.

1. I'm a big chicken when it comes to scary movies. Especially ones with a spiritual overtone. They totally creep me out and affect me for months and sometimes years after. Two years after I watched "Sixth Sense", the hairs on my neck would still stand up once I turned off all the lights and had to walk down the hallway past the thermostat to get to my bedroom.

2. I wanted to be a physiotherapist when I was in high school. Didn't happen.

3. I'm a card person. Love to give them, love to get them.

4. I'm not sure why, but we're really into the "Smallville" season DVD's at my house right now. The concept of what it was like for Superman in highschool before he realizes he's Superman, and how Lex Luther became bad and how the meteors affect the townspeople who come into contact with it is quite fascinating to me. My kids on the other hand, find all the weirdo's that come out of the woodwork on each episode fascinating. So something for everyone. ;v)

5. I love candles. But will never buy another gel candle again. My hubby had bought me a lovely one in a goblet. I was burning it on the fireplace mantle while my friend and I had a movie night at my house. We went to make another pot of coffee in the kitchen and chatted there while it was brewing. Cue the smell of smoke. Went to the living room to find a 2 foot flame shooting out of the goblet. It's a miracle nothing caught fire. Since then I've heard this happens alot with gel candles.

6. This is my current fave. Moonlit Walk & Wandering Stream. Doesn't that just sound relaxing? The scent is lusciously refreshing and pleasant and totally not overwhelming and at less than $3 I can have them all over. No, this is not a product review. Just wanted to share my current fave.

7. I've always wanted to learn to play the piano. Maybe one day.

8. I'm trying not to freak out at the thought that my daughter will be leaving home in less than 9 months. That's less time than I carried her in my tummy. Where did the last 18 years go? You'll probably hear a lot more about the freak out in the months to come, 'cause I've just got to let it out somewhere. So be patient with me!

Well, how'd I do? Have I mentioned any of those before?

Now to tag. Okay. Let's go with some new blogging friends: Faith at Gold in the Clouds. Who also by the way in today's post is sharing how you can get a Free bible for Christmasinto the hands of a soldier on active duty. Now how cool is that? Wouldn't you love to see each and every soldier away from home have the comfort of God's Word for Christmas. And Rochelle at Dream Bigger. You're tagged.

I'm with you on #3! I always say that I spend a small fortune on cards...
Those kids grow up way to fast. Is this your first one to head out?

Ellen: Yup, she's the first. So I'm a wreck. But shhh, don't tell her that.

That is weird about the gel candle! Have a great week!

Ok, I'll do the meme thing.
Children sure do grow up fast. I am already freakin' out and my oldest is just a freshman in high school! Yikes...only 3 more years at home!

I think these all are new & interesting things. Can't even talk about your daughter leaving home. I'll be crying with you!

I LOVE Smallville & have posted about it before. I think Tom Welling is the most handsome actor out there, but besides that, each episode is like a mini movie with incredible special effects. Love it.

I really like cards, too, & enjoy making them, but that is just not something I am getting to do right now.

I'm a big chicken when it comes to scary movies, too... I like to think that I (WE!) have sensitive spirits, and that are in tune with the Holy Spirit, and that sense we get when one of those movies are on is like a type of protection or covering over us.

Just my two cents.

freaky candles! eek!

I'm with you on the daughter leaving home. I freak out thinking I only have 11 years before my daughter goes to college. I can't imagine 9 months!

Blessings,
K

1. I won't watch scary movies at ALL.
5. AND the stuff in gel candles is super toxic - children have DIED after eating them! I'm going to stick with regular wax candles, too.

Thanks for participating! It was great fun to read your answers. Thanks for sharing a bit about missions work overseas - great perspective that you have gained! :)

I'm SO the same way on scary movies...my family watched Sixth Sense at night with the lights out and when it came to that scene with the thermostat, I bolted out of the room to my bed with lights on where I stayed until it was over! And have been the same way on your last one, kids leaving home...yes it can be hard. It does get better though!

It's getting a little eerie, how you and I are on the same page so often lately. I have that exact Glade candle in both my bathrooms. Two in each bathroom, actually. I love, love the scent.

Go right ahead and freak out about her leaving in less than nine months. There's no way to avoid the complete shock of her absence when it hits you that she's actually gone. The only thing that kept me together until I finally got used to it was counting the days between visits home.

Perfectly normal. As normal as can be. She's lived in your nest all these years - the nest will feel a little emptier when she flies.

But on a more positive note, even though you don't think you'll ever get used to it, you will. Children flying the nest is such a normal part of life, we eventually accept it whether we think we will or not.

I'm proof. :-)

This was fun....
And I am exactly the same way as you are about creepy movies...they can haunt me for years too, so I've learned to protect myself and avoid them!

Love cards too, but they are a rare things nowadays!

Good thing you warned me about gel candles....yikes!

As you know, I'm way behind on memes, too! ;) You've tagged me for at least 2 of them but I have them in the back burner of my mind...I plan to do at least one of them soon! ;)

Ahh..."moonlight walk and wandering stream"...you've sold me! :)

Holy smokes (!) what a scary thing to have happen with your candle. I started using those battery operated tea lights and now I'm really glad I did!

After knowing you over 2 years, I'd have to say that quite a few of these are a surprise to me. But I knew #1, 7 and 8 because we may have discussed them offsite.

But I love that I'm still finding out more and more about you.
