Nostalgia meme

I was tagged by Cyndee over at Riezzee's Place for this interesting Nostalgia meme:

What were you doing 10, 20, 30 years ago? Boy, I really had to put my thinking cap on for this one.

10 years ago: That would be 1997. I had an 7 year old, 5 year old and a 3 year old. I was into the full swing of a grade 2 child and a kindergartener in school. I had a dayhome. Can't remember how many children I had at the time. Probably at least 4. I remember though the hectic mornings as I had to get that many children out the door in the mornings in order to walk my two to school. Winter was mighty interesting, let me tell you. The principle used to tease me that I looked liked Mother Hen and all her chicks with all these little ones walking in a line. The evenings were relatively quiet at this point as my children had not yet discovered the "evening activity".

20 years ago: 1987. BK. Before Kids. I was working for the school district with severly handicapped children and totally loving it. Our lives were busy with work and at this point we were very involved with church. I believe at this time my hubby was leading worship for the different church plants that our church at the time was doing. So we'd be travelling almost every Sunday. I was on the ladies board at church and my area was "catering". We'd cater weddings and functions in order to raise money. That was a full time job in itself when a function would be booked. Sheesh. Now I look back and think how on earth did I do it all.

30 years ago: 1977. Sigh. This was not a good year for me. It's the year now referred to as the "year I lost my head". My grade 12 year. Let's just say I got in with the wrong crowd and school was not a priority and partying was. I ended up doing the graduation exercises with my class though I really should have not been allowed. I had to go back in the fall as a "super senior". Super as in not meaning that I was doing a super job. Everytime I said I was a super senior to my parents, my mom would just look me right in the eyes and say you failed grade 12. She was all about the truth. LOL. I was also working as a cashier at Safe*way during this year, and I think that might have had a lot to do with my sluffing school. It was at the time when working at Safe*way was considered a great job to land. I was making great money. More than twice as much as my friends who worked elsewhere, so I guess I figured I had it made in the shade and who needs school anyway? Foolish, foolish girl I was.

But, Praise God, when He gets a hold of a person His blood washes us clean and we are new creatures in Christ. I am no longer that foolish girl I was then. This wouldn't come for a few more years, but praise God He found me.

So now I need to tag some people. Hmmm, who haven't I got blessed in awhile. Linda from 2nd Cup of Coffee, Tammy from Family Doin's , Chappyswife from Journey to the Prize, and Katherine from Raising Five and anyone else who thinks this would be fun and great blog fodder. Let me know if you're doing it so I can come and read it.

It is fun to see how each decade has changed us, isn't it? Looks like your enduring characteristic through the years has been ENERGY. You are amazing! I think I may actually do this one, although the fact that I can remember 30 years ago makes me feel O-L-D!!

Oh Susanne...I loved this. It was amazing to read where and who you were in each decade...I cannot fathom doing home day care with little ones AND raising my own...what energy and stamina- and patience- you had!
Amazing that just ten years after you were that partying high school girl, God had brought you to such a wonderful place of serving Him!

And thank you for tagging me...yes, you know me well by now- I love nostalgia and am so doing this tag! :)

Your testimony is always an encouragement, every time I read it, I'm sure it is something to hold onto for those parents still in the middle of raising that teenager. xoxo

Wow your 10 years ago is almost where I am right now to a T:) I take my girls to the bus with my day care children and I know my neighbors think I'm nuts with ALL those kids.

And I got myself into a mess in 12th grade too.... Thank the Lord that He is patient and sooo gracious!

Something just ate my comment, so if this is a duplicate, delete. Anyway, I loved reading about you. And I will have to think back a bit to do this meme, and then I'll have to lie. No, just kidding! I'm pooped tonight,so I'll tackle it tomorrow.

This was fun to read! If I had to guess, I would have said you were never off track. This little wild side of yours makes me even more excited for who you are today. You are a light Suzanne!

I don't think I can even remember 30 years back... wait. Yes I can. I was dancing to Copa ... Copa Cabana ... on the soccer field without a care in the world.

I've seen this around and want to do it some time. It will take a while to figure out what was going on those years.

Thanks so much for sharing about the year you "lost your head." For me it was my sophomore years, the year leading up to my parents' divorce. I am thankful for this: "Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD." (Ps. 25:6-7). I'm so thankful for the blood of Christ that washes away our sins!!
