Book Review ~ The Stonewyck Trilogy

"The Stonewycke Trilogy" by Michael Phillips and Judith Pella

The Stonewycke Trilogy is a compilation of three books:
~The Heather Hills of Stonewycke
~Flight from Stonewycke
~The Lady of Stonewycke

Based on the lives of an arisocratic Scottish family, the Stonewycke series is the story of God's grace and the heritage of faith in the life and family of Margaret Duncan. As a young girl, her's in the ruling family in their area of Scotland. Having a heart for the people of the land, she clashes with her father who is all about gaining more power at the expense of the people and those he loves. Things come to a head when Maggie falls in love with who her father deems is unsuitable and has a deep hatred for and Maggie is forced to flee her beloved homeland. Crushed by circumstances she must make some hard choices in her new country. And finally at the end of her life, she calls upon her granddaughter to go back to her homeland to re-connect.

This series continues with 3 more books in the Stonewycke Legacy series. I have read the whole thing before, and chose the first three as my summer re-read. They are historical novels and one of the authors being Michael Phillips you do get a lot of the history of the land. And also with that author comes definite conversations and writing on issues of Christianity. That said, it is a wonderful story of new found faith, forgiveness and grace. The lessons of faith are woven into the context of the story so never seem out of place. You are easily drawn into Maggie's world, first as a heiress and then as a pioneer facing the hardship of seeking a new life in America.

I felt there was a bit of a jump from the second to the third book as the story missed the happenings in the life of a whole generation and picks up with her granddaughter. But I still enjoyed it for the story's line's sake.

So Susanne, since you participated last year, I’m stopping by to let you know that I’m hosting a 2nd Edition of my Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style recipe exchange!

I hope you can join me again this year on 5 October. And, would you mind helping me to spread the word by publishing a post about my holiday recipe exchange before next Friday? I’d sure appreciate it! I have the button in my most recent post.

Thanks so much!

These sound like great books! Can you believe - I just checked my local library online and they have the first and last one in this trilogy, but not the middle one. Go figure :)

Happy Reading!!!
