Mind Numbing Rambling and Menu Plan Monday

Whew! What a whirlwind weekend we have had! I think I need a weekend to recuperate from my weekend. My teen girl is well into the rugby season and had a tournament both this last weekend and the weekend before. Not to mention a game in the middle of the week and practices. Wednesday's game was very exciting but nerve wracking. I find I'm very torn watching the games. Lots of excitement but also holding my breath every time she makes a tackle or even worse, when she gets tackled. There's always a big sigh of relief when the game is done and she had no injury. Hubby just shakes his head, he can't understand why girl's want to play this game. After about the 4th injury of the game, he joking stated that when they made the rugby fields they should have built a mini-hospital in between the two fields.

Saturday she missed the tournament to participate in the youth group's fundraiser. This year we did a highway clean up. We had to be there at 7:30 in the morning. *GROAN* I had a hard enough time getting myself to give up my jammies, computer, and coffee, in my new mug, of course, never mind trying to raise from the dead 3 teenagers at that time on a Saturday morning. But I was having to live up to what the little saying on the mug said, I guess.

Can I say highway clean up is not as easy as they make it sound on that little instructional DVD you have to watch before you can participate? I should have clued in when those people just looked a little too happy and looked like they were having just a little too much fun on that DVD. While it was fun and nice spending the time with my girls, after 5 1/2 hours of walking on an angle bending over constantly to pick up garbage, this 'ole body was done in. I was begging for advil after a couple hours. And to say nothing of the fact you can't carry a travel mug of coffee with you. Something to do with needing both hands while you worked. I should have filled my son's water back pack with a pot of coffee. I would have been perfect! It has a little hose that comes right up by your mouth. It would have been like having my own little IV of coffee connected right to me. Darn. I always think of great ideas after the fact. I'll have to make note for next year.

And can I say I can't believe what people throw out their car windows? What is up with that? The number of empty cigarette packs was phenomenal. We also found a smaller fire extinguisher, diapers, a sampling of containers from every fast food joint in town, clothing, cardboard boxes in all sizes, roof tiles, carpet pieces. But the thing that was totally distressing was the amount of beer bottles and can and hard liqour bottles we found. When will people get it to STOP DRINKING AND DRIVING!!!! It was horrifying knowing people had been barrelling down the highway while consuming alcohol.

But when all was said and done, even though we were exhausted, hungry, and wind and sun burnt, we had raised a good amount for the youth group for their various activites throughout the year. I felt bad for my son though, who had to go to work a couple hours later. It's a good thing he has the energy of a 15 year old and not the energy of a 40 something year old. Not mentioning any names of course.

While waiting for the phone call to come pick him up from work, which is around midnight, I fell asleep. The ring of the phone woke me up, and I jumped up in my sleep hazed mind knowing it was my boy phoning for a ride. It was my boy all right, but he was phoning to tell me the boss was taking him to emergency because he'd cut his finger and it wouldn't stop bleeding so they figured he might need stitches. Could I meet them there? Can I say I was now wide awake? Two hours in the emegency and 3 little stitches later we were finally on our way home and to my blessed bed. I was very thankful for my bed that night!

Top this off with a usual Sunday of church, grocery shopping and trying to find one pickyselective pre-teen girl some summer shoes and you get one very tired me writing a long rambling post about basically nothing. So I'm going to stop here and put up my Menu Plan Monday and go read some posts that actually have something to say. :v)

Tuesday: lobster/shrimp ravioli with cream sauce, buttered carrots
Wednesday: Peking Pork Chops, rice, cauliflower/brocolli mix

Ack, my Internet just went out.
Your week sounds crazy, I'm impressed you were able to put a menu together!
I love to watch rugby but you're right, it is very dangerous!
I pray your son's finger is better and you get some rest after that crazy week!

Wonderful menu--thanks for sharing!

I am tired for you after reading your post! I often say that my weekend begins on Monday when life returns to a routine and I can take a deep breath from all the activity of the weekend.

Your menu looks yummy!

Holy smokes, what a weekend you had! And the thought of you walking around picking up garbage with a hose going to your mouth with coffee in it cracked me up. Now that would have been a sight to see!!
Gosh I'm surprised you had the energy just to type this post. You'd better take it easy today :)
I saved the pork chop recipe to my favorites. Looks yummy!

What a weekend! I loved the idea about filling up the water back pack with coffee and having an IV! So funny.
It is terrible what people throw out and very disturbing that it's so many beer/liquor bottles.

Your menu looks great and I think I'll drop by Tuesday and Saturday!

I'm too tired to leave much of a comment after reading all you had to do. Just kidding. I don't think I want my kids to become teenagers for a long time, it sounds way too exhausing. Then, to top it all off, you are going to cook every night of the week. You are making mom's everywhere drop their jaws, well, at least this mom. You go superwoman! I think I'll take a nap for you.

Hi, Susanne! I just dropped by to check in on your busy life. Glad to hear that things are going well with you! Thanks for that book review. I'd like to read it sometime. Take care. :0)

Yummy menu!! Wow, you were very busy over the past few days, Susanne! I've never watched rugby, but I've at least heard of the sport. lol Hope your son's finger is better.
I'm with you on the whole alcohol issue. People see what it does, but it doesn't stop them. Human nature, I guess.
Sorry I haven't been around in a while.

Hugs,
Eden

We've participated in the Beach Clean Up and yes, it's amazing what people toss. Ugh!
We tried the 40 Garlic Chicken. It won't be a repeat in our house. But, we did have fun preparing it.
Have a terrific Mother's Day!

Love your menu...can I come over for Lobster night? ;)

bless you
some people just dont care where they throw their rubbish :(
It is horrifying how people DRINK AND DRIVE. The young think nothing can kill them but it can and if they dont kill themselves they kill other innocent people. Well done for earning a fair enough for the youth group
hope your son is ok now

Hope you have a better week.

I'll be there for supper on Tuesday! Yum.
Cleaning highways never sounded easy to ME, but then I'm very lazy.

Five and a half hours walking on slopes, picking up disgusting things and doing it all without coffee. I'm giving you a gold star, Susanne. That's above and beyond.

It amazes me people toss anything out car windows - I could never do that. It's just ingrained in me..no littering! But yes, the booze bottles and cans is very sad. People are just stupid.

My weekend was a cake walk compared to yours. At least I didn't spend any time in emergency rooms. You must be exhausted. I'm exhausted just reading about all this.

I hope things calm down for you and I totally think you should discuss that coffee IV with your doctor. What a great idea! :-)

Susanne, I'm testing our computer on you this morning! We think it may be fixed (please, Lord). I like when people talk about a typical day or weekend once in a while. Have a great day.
