A Little of This, A Little of That

Today is a real smorgasboard of stuff that I'm going to mention today. Read through them all. There's got to be something in here that'll will grab you.

First of all the most important things. There is a couple dire prayer request that have come up in Blogland. One most of you have probably come across is Amy. Amy is a young mom with a very serious leukemia. She will be having a bone marrow transplant next week. She's going through all the medical stuff that goes along with getting her ready for that right now. Her husband has written a very beautiful post here. Please pray for her and her family as they face a very hard thing together in this coming week.

The other prayer request is for a wonderful little boy named Micah. His site is here. He was diagnosed in October with neuroblastoma and has already undergone one round of chemo. Micah is all of two years old.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd like to thank all of you for your well wishes last week. While I was feeling very sick and run down it is nothing compared to what these precious ones or their families are going through. It almost makes me feel like a big wimp and very embarrassed that I even mentioned that I was not feeling well in my post. But again, thank you for caring. It really did build me up and was very encouraging. I appreciate your friendship very much.
This next part is for Barb. In my Thanksgiving list of foods we had for our feast, she requested the recipe for Maple Yams. Here you go Barb. It may be the 11th hour but never late. :vP
MAPLE YAMS
3 yams, peeled and sliced
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. real maple syrup2 tbsp. butter *
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Salt and pepper to taste
Walnuts, chopped (optional)
Layer sliced yams in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Combine brown sugar, maple syrup, butter, cinnamon, salt and pepper in small saucepan. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Pour mixture over sliced yams. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees until yams are tender. If desired, sprinkle chopped walnuts over yams
.
*If you don't have access to real maple syrup or don't want to buy a bottle just for this, there is brands available that are 30 - 50% real maple. Any maple flavored syrup will work but of course the best tasting will be the real thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now I have a request from beloved hubby. He's on a mission to perfect a Ceasar salad to taste just like the one's we love from a certain resteraunt here in town. But they won't give out the recipe and it's nowhere on the web that we can find. So he asked me to ask my blogging buddies to send me their best Ceasar salad recipes. It looks like he's going to want to try them all until he finds the right one. Let's just say be glad we are conversing through the computer and not MIRL for the next while. His last attempt had 4 large cloves of garlic! Mind you maybe it'll knock this crazy virus out of my system for good. So send them in. You can use the comments that way everyone can get some great Ceasar recipes to try.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last but not least I need your opinions. I've been thinking for awhile that alot of you are parents of pre-schoolers and I've been thinking of having a once a week post, maybe on Mondays for a Kid's Craft of the Week. I've got a bazillion of them that can be adapted to whatever age. If there is enough interest, I'll give that a whirl. Let me know what you think.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, I do believe, that is it. I hope I forgotten anything. Have a great day!

Good morning! I would love to see some craft ideas since I'm so not crafty myself. Glad you are feeling better. Laura

1. I'm going to start praying for Amy and Micah.

2. I'm so glad you're feeling better.

3. Those yams look good enough that I might even eat them.

4. I buy Paul Newman's Caesar Dressing. It is delicious and a whole lot easier than scratch.

5. I'm past preschool, but I bet there would be a ton of mothers who would love to have your ideas.

Goodness, Susanne. You certainly covered everything! :-)

I mentioned Amy last Sunday. Reading Brandon's post broke my heart and I'm so afraid for her. So I hope between you and me both asking for prayer, miracles will happen for them.

Caesar salad is Rob's absolute specialty. He doesn't use a recipe but I think I can come up with something. I'm so tied down with Cameron today, I won't get to it until probably tomorrow morning but I'll see what I can do for you.

I think the kids' craft thing is a great idea and I'm sure a lot of moms out here will agree. Go for it!

Susanne, thank you for sharing about Amy and Micah. I have added them to ur prayer list. I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like to have a child that is seriously ill. Just thinking about Micah and his family breaks my heart. Amy is blessed to have a husband like Brandon.
It's good to hear that you are feeling much better.
Maple Yams - sounds scruptuous - I'll be giving them a try.
I don't have a Ceasar salad recipe, but with all the wonderful cooks out in blogland, I'm sure you and your hubby will find the ultimate Ceasar salad recipe!
Kid's Craft is a great idea, Susanne! Olyvia is only 6 months old, but maybe I could adapt some of the crafts for her. It's always nice to have ideas.
I sure hope that you will get to see One Night with the King on the big screen.

Praying!
And my aunt tammy is famous for her Caesar Salad - and she's coming up this weekend! I'll ask her for her recipe.

Well, how rude am I? THANK YOU for posting the yam recipe. I've got it all printed out and factored into our Thanksgiving dinner. No one likes yams but me so this is all mine! Hee hee.

OOps, I apologize. I had to go back and think about where I have been. I visited here a few days ago and I assumed I had found you on CWO, but it was actually at Lifesong that I read a comment and decided to take a peek. I need to be more careful and not just assume. (something I am always telling my kids)

I will pray for Amy and Micah.
Something else people can do to help people like Amy who need bone marrow transplants - sign up to be a bone marrow donor! I am on the US registry, but have not yet been a match for anyone. If I ever do get a call, I will be honored to help someone live. Sign up or get info at www.marrow.org(USA) or www.blood.ca (Canada)

Glad you're feeling better!

Mmmmm...maple yams sound gooood.

I don't have a cesar salad recipe, but I love to use epicurious.com for recipes. You could check them out if you need more input.

Bring on the pre-schooler crafts!!! Maybe you could post your own ideas, and do a Mr. Linky for anyone else who wants to add some. I bet there's more out there, too. I can use all the ideas I can get.

I would love to know your craft ideas. Caleb is one and just about to the age when he can START doing something with A LOT of help! ;-)

Caesar salad is my favorite too. I think the cheese - really good Parmesano-Reggiano, in nice big wafers - makes a big difference. I'm not a big dressing person; I'm a dipper, so I can't really help you with the dressing. I'll be watching here for good recipes though.

Definitely do your craft of the week idea!
Yummy-looking recipe, think I'll give it a try.
Praying for these two precious ones.
Glad you're feeling better.

I love craft ideas. That would be great.

I don't have a great Ceasar salad recipe, but I love this salad so maybe someone will post a great one.

I am also praying for Amy and Micah. Aren't their stories so sad.

Thank you for sharing about those in need. I will pray! I'm home from church this morning with our youngest-he has that croupy cough and it is very scary! I don't like illnesses that affect the breathing! Please pray for him if you think about it.

I have just finished reading the blogs of those that you shared. My heart is broken for both families. I have been crying for both of them. I know God is good-these things are no lapse in the goodness of God...I truly believe that...it just hurts to see people suffering like that.

Loved the rambly mixture of this and that, and esp the reminders to be praying for Amy and Micah. Going to the sites and seeing them, it cant help but move you to pray.
