Everyday Things ~ Day Off

"...For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." Philippians 4:11

My everyday thing that I'm so grateful for this week is the weekend. I'm very thankful that I have one day out of the week that can, by theory, be more relaxed, more slow paced, and relatively peaceful in the morning. Sunday is church, so no more need be said of the franticness of trying to get a family of 5 out the door. Monday to Friday I have children arriving very early for dayhome and in the midst of greeting at the door and getting them settled I have my own children I need to make sure are up and at 'em and on track time wise for school. It can be very much chaos. Some mornings more controlled than others.

So I am happy and content with my Saturday mornings. I actually get to sleep in a little bit. Although I probably don't get any more sleep than on weekdays because I just stay up way too late on a Friday night. But there is just something about being able to stay in bed until you wake up on your own without that old alarm clock jarring you up into a sitting position with you fumbling around in a groggy, foggy state trying to turn the durn thing off. Yes, I have issues with the alarm clock.

And the coffee even tastes different on a day off. I don't know why. But maybe sitting while I'm drinking it may have something to do with it. Or maybe, it's that I can drink it in my housecoat. Or maybe, getting to read my bible and book in peace gives it a special flavor. But I feel like the girl on the Folger's commercial with cup raised to my lips, eyes closed in contentment, letting the steam arise up my nostrils in a satisfying intake of coffee aroma into my senses. That must be it. That's why coffee tastes better on a day off. I get to taste it while it's hot. Well, who knew!

Yes, I do love my day off!

I'd have to agree with you, Saturday morning is the best. And for the same reasons. I only have 1 of my own in school, but I have a daycare child in the morning and have to get all 3 of mine ready to walk my oldest to the bus... I love staying in my Jammies on Sat. morning;)

Yes. And another testimony why God wants us to rest. :>)

We do take Our days like this for granted so much. Thanks for reminding me of Saturdays....I too enjoy them.

BTW...Rotel is tomatoe and green chilis found at just about any grocery store. Hope you find them.
Enjoy your coffee tomorrow morning.

I love, love, love that scripture and it is so hard to always be content. I am so happy you have your Saturdays mornings. Great post other than you had to mention coffee. Just kidding. I gave it up for a month and was doing fine until your description which now has me drooling.

YAY! I love the weekend, too! Friday night is my favorite time of the whole week - my honey and I had a glass of wine, watch a movie and just RELAX. It's so nice!

Yes -- I couldn't agree more. With school in session I long for lazy weekend mornings.

On that note, have a happy weekend!!! :)

I just came across your blog and am really enjoying it. I too love my one day a week of almost total relaxation. I have 7 kids, two are grown and living on their own, but this still leaves 5 to get out the door in the morning, so I know how hectic mornings can be.

I am going to go and copy the beef and gravy recipe, this sounds yumm-o.
