Humble Pie with my Coffee

Sigh. You ever notice how having kids around the place, keeps one humble? No, just borrow some or open a dayhome and it won't take long before you're having a nice, thick slice of humble pie.

The latest pie I had to eat was at noon today. I had called "lunch time" and was lifting a husky two year old into a high chair when a 7 year old tried to push between me and the table to get to his spot, causing me to turn awkwardly. Ok, perfect teaching moment, right? About using manners to say excuse me and then waiting until the person actually moves and gives you room, yada, yada, yada. As I was asking the small people crowd, "What happens when you push someone who's trying to lift a baby?", I got the correct answers shouted out of: "Someone could get hurt", "You can drop the baby", "You could hurt your back". Then out of the corner, in all innocence, a little voice pipes up: "It's 'cause you're really old."

Ya, well, put more soup & sandwich in your lips, please and keep chewing, please. Well! To make that humble pie the ala mode kind, I look at my 16yr. old daughter going out the door to work. Her face is now the color of her hair, red auburn if you didn't know, and not 'cause she's embarrased for me, but because she's trying her darndest not to laugh. Good bye my child, have a great day at work, and don't let the door hit you on the behind on the way out! Hmmmph!

Please pass the whipped cream! Yes, the whole can, please!

LOL, That is so funny and I love the way you discribe your daughter getting hers at the expense of her Mom, but really they make several products on the shelves now that can slow the aging process down. hehe :0 You're only thirty girl don't let those kids run all over you. lol Cute post!

Pamela: I'll take your thirty and raise you, well, I was 29 when I had said daughter and she's 16 now so, uhmm, well you do the math!

Oh Susanne, this post gave me a giggle. But I'm allowed to laugh... only because I have been humbled many, many times by my little guy.

Don't worry, we still love you Susanne! And remember that to a 7 year old, 20 is REALLY OLD! And I know this because a few years back my seven year old niece informed me that I was really old because I was 20! Just keep THAT perspective and you'll be just fine!

You are right on with children humbling you:) I have 3 of my own and a day care at home. I am constantly being humbled.... but it's good. Keeps me seeking the Lord!!!

Kids: Can't live with 'em. Can't wrap them in duct tape either. I tried. The law does not look kindly on it.

I could use that whole can of whipped cream after my day (see blog).

They keep us on our toes, huh.

Pfffffththth...I get that nearly every day - from my 14y/o daughter. Can't wait 'til she gets a job! And gets out of college, and gets married, and spits out a couple of kids, and the girl-child tells her she's old. So, pass the whipped cream 'cause she's gonna need it!
