Food, Glorious Food!

I'm back! Stuffed to the gills, but so happy! We took off for the big city for a few days this week and had a wonderful family time! Lauren asked me in the comments here to this post how many flavors did I get to in her words, "Scarf Up" of the Marble Slab Creamery Ice Cream. Alas, never did make it back. But before you think I so purposely went back on my word to go back and make a decision, a quick decision that is, I really did decide on my next concoction. It was going to be lemon custard with blueberry stir in in a cinnamon waffle cone. See, I had the decision all made. Aren't you proud?

However, all the great resteraunts in a big city worked against me. By the time we made the rounds of going to old favorites and trying new ones I had not a smidge of room for one more sample of anything.

You see part of the fun of our family's vacation is the eating out part. We stay in a hotel that serves an incredible continental type buffet breakfast but it's no ordinary continental breakfast. You know the muffin or doughnut with coffee kind. Not here! At our fave hotel we get belgian waffles, hot right off the griddle, build your own egg mcmuffins (or just take the egg part or the bacon or sausage, whatever you want!), choice of 3 cold cereals, oatmeal, begals, muffins, scones, toast, yogurt, 3 or 4 juices and of course, coffee! No need for lunch with this kind of breaky!

Just to give you an idea so you know I am totally not kidding these were a few of our stops on our food part of the holiday: Ikea lunchroom for Swedish meatballs; Old Spaghetti Factory for Penne with Chorizo sausage (for me) and Spaghetti with brown butter and mizithra cheese (for everyone else) and of course, all you can eat hot sourdough bread and garlic butter, salad or soup and spumoni ice cream all included; Chili's for fajita's; corn dogs & carmel apples at the amusement park; popcorn at the Imax; Red Lobster for seafood and to top it off we went to the Bernard Callebaut Chocolate Factory & Store for a tour and you just can't leave there without buying something! And this is creme de la creme of chocolate! It's so good I can't even describe it! But beware, if you are anything like me with decisions, good luck at this place. We bought a box of 18. You try and pick from here just 18 of these lucious things or here from this stuff! I dare ya!

Ok, I can hear all of you now, exclaiming how much could we eat in a day?! This was spread out over our holiday! Sillies! But needless to say, we were pretty full so more flavors from Marble Slab will have to be a mission left to another trip to the big city which I'm, even now as I type, trying to think up a reason for a return trip.

But needless to say by the time we went to go back none of us could stuff one more thing. As we drove past the Marble Slab on our way to get out of town and I mentioned trying one more flavor, everyone looked at me with a horrified bug eyed expression on their face so I sort of let it go. Now I'm at home, trying to ignore the call of the treadmill behind me, but I think I better give in to it tomorrow. It's either that or not eat for a week. And well, we just can't have that now, can we?!

Well, you tried. You can help it if the rest of the family just aren't the scarfing troupers that you are. :)

Sounds like my kind of holiday. When are we going again?

Well it sounds wonderful to me. And before we finally moved out here to western Colorado, when Rob and I came out to see our girls we always stayed in the biggest hotel in town (Krissy worked there - we got a huge discount) because their breakfast buffet was to die for. We counted it as breakfast AND lunch, it was so vast. Sounds like you had a great time.

Lauren: Ya, I can scarf with the best of them!

Barb: It was a great time. We did do other things other than eat, too! :) I'll tell about those coming up!

Sounds like you had a great time!! Glad to hear of all the WONDERFUL places you had a chance to eat. Now I don't feel so far behind on our "plan"... :-)

Bummer part is... I didn't have all those wonderful places to eat at and an excuse of "holiday"... I just plain ate... *sigh*...

Back at it this week!

That is my kind of trip... we're travelling next weekend, but sadly not to any gastronomic paradies. Siggggh.

Oh, and YAY! I just followed the link to the Callebaut website and discovered that I could get things shipped to me - I've been looking for a good Canadian mail order source for chocolate forever!

Sounds like an great little holiday. Yum-o - how did you ever manage with all those food choices? We're going away this weekend but I think all we'll find will be little hole-in-the-wall places. But those can be just as good, and awfully cute!

chappyswife: thanks. It was a bit of withdrawl on my part for sure!

beck: Food and holidays do sort of go hand in hand with my family.

dianne: The choices were hard but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

Good night nurse! Now I'm hungry and I just at lunch! Oh, and I need to know where you were staying. That kind of breakfast sounds divine.

And don't you need to send me some chocolate to go with those roses from a long time ago? I'm sure you mentioned SOMETHING like that...
