Works for Me Wednesday

Wfmwheader_copy2_6

My very first works for me Wednesday. I'm so excited! I first posted this in Shannon's comments but thought I'd repeat it here.

One of the best things that I found that worked for me a "Birthday Box". When my kids were small, it seemed they were constantly going to birthday parties. It was starting to get very costly in both my time and finances. So I started a birthday box. Whenever I was out shopping, and noticed an extra good deal on a child's toy, I'd buy it and put it in the birthday box. Then when the invitation came home, instead of running to a store the kids got to go shopping in the birthday box.

This saved me a ton of money because I would always walk thru the clearance sections. I would get 25.00 dollar toys for $2.00 sometimes. The kids liked being able to have a choice to pick from and I was thrilled to save big bucks. I would find cool stuff in all sorts of clearance sections, not just toy stores. I perused grocery stores, hardware stores, wherever I happened to be shopping.

P.S. I'm working on the technical difficulties of making Shannon's lovely banner fit my template. If anyone has a tip it will sure make my life easier! :D

Update: I figured it out! Thanks to aggiejenn for making my life easier! This calls for a celebration! Coffee anyone?

My grandma used to have a box like that. When we were good, we got to pick a toy from the box! It was so fun! Have a good one!

GREAT idea! I have done something similar to that when my kids were younger. Could do the same thing for Christmas gifts...I suppose...but then I'd have to remember where I hid them months later! The box is a good idea!

about that header...you should be able to go back and edit your post, click on the picture in the bottom right corner (you should see a little arrow pointing up and to the left). Drag it and make it a smaller size. The first time I used that banner it made my template go crazy, too. Just resize it in the compose mode. Hope that helps. email me if you still can't do it justinandjennifer(at)gmail(dot)com.

EXCELLENT!! Haven't you been there when you just forgot about the gift? With this idea you can always go to the "birthday box" and know something is there!! :)

Great idea! I plan on doing this same thing! Just a suggestion - I think it's a great idea up until the age where the child starts to figure out that you gave them something from a gift box. I remember getting gifts from people when I was 9 or 10 and I could tell it was the type of thing they had in their gift drawer. :) I think all gifts should be received with great thankfulness to the giver, but I do plan on trying to make the gifts we give (pre-bought or not) special so the the recipient doesn't think we don't care enough to go out and buy a gift especially for them. Thanks for reminding me of this great idea!

We do this too! It's really nice to have something to give when you forget or when you are short of money, which for me is pretty much ALL THE TIME.
